We study the proof theory and algorithms for orthologic, a logical system based on ortholattices, which have shown practical relevance in simplification and normalization of verification conditions. Ortholattices weaken Boolean algebras while having polyno ...

In this paper, we present a model for the analytical computation of the power flow sensitivity coefficients (SCs) for hybrid AC/DC networks. The SCs are defined as the partial derivates of the nodal voltages with respect to the active and reactive power in ...

A hash proof system (HPS) is a form of implicit proof of membership to a language. Out of the very few existing post-quantum HPS, most are based on languages of ciphertexts of code-based or lattice-based cryptosystems and inherently suffer from a gap cause ...

We present LISA, a proof system and proof assistant for constructing proofs in schematic first-order logic and axiomatic set theory. The logical kernel of the system is a proof checker for first-order logic with equality and schematic predicate and fun ...

Edible electronics leverages the electronic properties of food-derived materials to deliver safer technologies that can be degraded (or digested) in the environment (or body) at the end-of-life. Sensors will be central to future smart edible robots, and ed ...

Prediction of ground motion triggered by earthquakes is a prime concern for both the seismology community and geotechnical earthquake engineering one. The subfield occupied with such a problem is termed site response analysis (SRA), its one-dimensional fla ...

Over the past century, our understanding of life has been focused on its most fundamental building blocks: molecules. Biological molecules, such as proteins found in blood, other body fluids, or tissues, are excellent guides to identifying a normal or abno ...

Background: Increasingly, hospitals and research institutes are developing technical solutions for sharing patient data in a privacy preserving manner. Two of these technical solutions are homomorphic encryption and distributed ledger technology. Homomorph ...

Advances in mobile computing have paved the way for new types of distributed applications that can be executed solely by mobile devices on Device-to-Device (D2D) ecosystems (e.g., crowdsensing). Sophisticated applications, like cryptocurrencies, need distr ...

MRI is a non-invasive medical imaging modality that is sensitive to patient motion, which constitutes a major limitation in most clinical applications. Solutions may arise from the reduction of acquisition times or from motion-correction techniques, either ...

Macrocycles have excellent potential as therapeutics due to their ability to bind challenging targets. However, generating macrocycles against new targets is hindered by a lack of large macrocycle libraries for high-throughput screening. To overcome this, ...

Plasma treatments are currently being assessed as a seed processing technology for agricultural purposes. There is sufficient information as a proof-of-concept, but a lack of standardization in the methodology prevents a convincing evaluation of plasma tre ...

Transient bioelectronics has grown fast, opening possibilities never thought before. In medicine, transient implantable devices are interesting because they could eliminate the risks related to surgical retrieval and reduce the chronic foreign body reactio ...

Inferring the organization of fluorescently labeled nanosized structures from single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) data, typically obscured by stochastic noise and background, remains challenging. To overcome this, we developed a method to extrac ...

A novel dual-band polarization-independent transmitarray is introduced in this paper for communication systems in Ka-band. Thanks to its unit-cell topology, the transmitarray antenna demonstrates almost complete independent performance at two design freque ...

The increasing number of health-data breaches is creating a complicated environment for medical-data sharing and, consequently, for medical progress. Therefore, the development of new solutions that can reassure clinical sites by enabling privacy-preservin ...

The papers present three innovative solutions for fine sediment manage- ments in seasonal reservoirs, which are at different stages of maturity. Operational reservoir stirring using jet-like inflows may facilitate sediment routing, at no addi- tional cost ...

Employing dielectric microspheres in a standard microscope setup is an alternative to image sub-diffraction features optically, however this method suffers from a limited field-of-view. Here, we show our microsphere-based optical super-resolution microscop ...

The current industrial revolution is said to be driven by the digitization that exploits connected information across all aspects of manufacturing. Standards have been recognized as an important enabler. Ontology-based information standard may provide bene ...

The impressive technological advances in genomic analysis and the significant drop in the cost of genome sequencing are paving the way to a variety of revolutionary applications in modern healthcare. In particular, the increasing understanding of the human ...
