We theoretically, numerically and experimentally demonstrate the acoustic isolator effect in a one-dimensional waveguide with direction-dependent controlled boundary conditions. A theoretical model is used to explain the principle of nonreciprocal propagat ...

Slow light plays an outstanding role in a wide variety of optical applications, from quantum information to optical processing. While slow optical guiding in photonic crystal waveguides is typically based on Bragg band gaps occurring in non-resonant photon ...

The interplay between order and disorder in photonic lattices opens up a wide range of novel optical scattering mechanisms, cavity-mode resonances, and applications that can be obscured by typical ordered design approaches to photonics. Striking examples i ...

In this article, a rigorous analytical methodology is introduced for designing near-zero refractive index metamaterials (NZIMs). Our proposed NZIM media is realized by three stacked layers of perforated metallic surfaces, each layer composed of a fishnet-l ...

Silicon nitride has emerged as a prominent platform for building photonics integrated circuits. While its nonlinear properties based on third-order effects have been successfully exploited, an efficient second harmonic generation in standard stoichiometric ...

Compact, low loss flexible optical waveguides are crucial in optofluidic and microfluidic devices for a dense integration of optical functionalities. We demonstrate the fabrication of compact optical waveguides in polydimethylsiloxane through multiphoton l ...

High index optical waveguide devices such as slab waveguides, strip waveguides and fibers play extremely important roles in a wide range of modern applications including telecommunications, sensing, lasing, interferometry, and resonant amplification. Yet, ...

Chip-based optical waveguides formed by a silicon nitride (Si3N4) core and a silicon dioxide (SiO2) cladding are an important platform for low loss waveguides and nonlinear optics. High Q microresonators based on this material system have become a standard ...

A convenient approach for slowing down light in integrated optical circuits is by utilizing a set of coupled microcavities in a photonic crystal lattice. While this provides for flexibility in dispersion engineering, light transport is influenced by a comb ...

Resonant waveguide gratings (RWGs), also known as guided mode resonant (GMR) gratings or waveguide-mode resonant gratings, are dielectric structures where these resonant diffractive elements benefit from lateral leaky guided modes from UV to microwave freq ...

Owing to its excellent elasticity, wide spectral range of transparency, and outstanding chemical and thermal stability, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is an elastomer of great technological importance, being widely used in the fabrication of microfluidic and ...
