In this paper, we design linear precoders for the downlink of a visible light communication (VLC) system that simultaneously serves multiple users. Instead of using phosphor-coated white light-emitting diodes (PWLEDs), we focus on Red-Green-Blue light-emit ...

Optical frequency combs have the potential to become key building blocks of wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) communication systems. The strictly equidistant narrow-band spectral lines of a frequency comb can serve either as carriers for parallel WDM ...

A time-division multiplexing (TDM) digital channel coding scheme for wireline multi-drop interfaces has been proposed. Shaping the TX spectrum to avoid channel frequency notches, the proposed digital TDM signaling reduces inter-symbol interference (ISI) an ...

We experimentally demonstrate Kramers-Kronig detection of four 20 Gbaud 16-quadrature-amplitude-modulated (QAM) channels after 50 km fiber transmission using two soliton Kerr combs as signal sources and local oscillators. The estimated carrier phase at the ...

A time-division multiplexing (TDM) digital channel coding scheme with inter-symbol interference (ICI) reduction property for multi-drop memory interfaces has been proposed. Shaping the TX spectrum to avoid channel frequency notches, the proposed digital TD ...

MEMS mirrors are currently used in many applications to steer beams of light. An area of continued research is developing mirrors with varifocal capability that allows the beam to be shaped and focused. In this work, we study the varifocal capability of a ...

Small-scale, deformable riblets, embedded within the viscous sublayer of a turbulent boundary layer and capable to adapt to the overlying motion, are studied. The wall micro-grooves are made of a linearly elastic material and can undergo small deformations ...

Interleaving two soliton Kerr combs we generate 179 carriers for WDM transmission and demonstrate transmission of a data stream of 50 Tbit/s over 75 km. This is the highest data rate achieved with a chip-scale comb source. ...

Loss of stability is a precursor to falling and therefore represents a leading cause of injury, especially in fragile people. Thus, dynamic stability during activities of daily living (ADLs) needs to be considered to assess balance control and fall risk. T ...

High voltage direct current super-grids are one attractive solution for the transmission of bulk power of renewable electricity over long distances. Their protection is still an issue and superconducting fault current limiters (SCFCL) offer attractive pers ...

A tunable and reconfigurable optical Nyquist channels aggregation is experimentally demonstrated. The proposed method two aggregate lower order modulation formats into a single higher order one. Two 16 Gbaud QPSK Nyquist pulses aggregated to a 16 QAM Nyqui ...

The steady growth of capacity demand in telecommunication networks has sparked the development of various photonic devices for ultrafast optical signal processing functions to meet the requirements of future flexible fiber networks in general and backbone ...

Because organic micropollutants (MP) are frequently detected in river waters that are used as drinking water sources, combining a relatively cost-efficient natural treatment with upstream advanced oxidation processes (AOP) appears promising for their effic ...

High-speed optical interconnects rely on advanced wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) schemes. However, while photonic-electronic interfaces can be efficiently realized on silicon-on-insulator chips, dense integration of the necessary light sources stil ...

We experimentally achieve optical time multiplexing of multiple Nyquist channels. A single microresonator Kerr comb allows the generation of multiple Nyquist sinc shaped pulse trains. TDM of pulse trains are obtained through wavelength conversion inside a ...

This paper presents a comparative study, analyzing the potentials of pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) for implementing next generation high-speed copper wireline links. This comparative study analyzes the sensitivities of PAM2, PAM4 and PAM8 to inter-symbo ...

Ultra-thin polymer optical waveguide couplers for integrated optics based on Bloch surface waves (BSWs) are presented. Desirable BSW guiding properties, such as low loss and long propagation distance, are observed. The waveguide thickness is on the order o ...

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner technology requires the use of a large number of PET detector modules that work in a parallel and synchronous manner. Moreover, system modularity is a desirable feature, that enables technology reutilization for d ...

We experimentally demonstrate three-fold wavelength multicasting of a 64-quadrature-amplitude-modulation (QAM), 120-Gbit/s data channel using a microresonator Kerr frequency comb and nonlinear wave mixing. The multicasting is achieved with a data signal an ...

Since the invention of optical fiber cable data transmission using light has become ubiquitous in the past years. Nonlinear optical effects, which are hardly noticed in our daily life, have become crucial and highly influential for the design and performan ...
