Nanoelectronic devices operating in the quantum regime require coherent manipulation and control over electrons at atomic length and time scales. We demonstrate coherent control over electrons in a tunnel junction of a scanning tunneling microscope by mean ...

Thin film coatings are ubiquitous in modern daily lives, from the semi-conductor industry to aesthetic applications, and rely on the modification of a given material to enhance its surface properties. At CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), t ...

Modern envelope glazing relies on nanoscale coatings to meet a range of specific needs. Low emissivity coatings can improve the thermal performance of glazing thanks to a thin metallic film. However, the conductive nature of this layer leads to an attenuat ...

Two types of nanosized niobium oxides and their composites, pseudohexagonal Nb2O5 (TT-Nb2O5), monoclinic NbO2 (M-NbO2), and the coexistence of TT-Nb2O5 and M-NbO2 (TT-Nb2O5/M-NbO2), are successfully synthesized through the urea-metal chloride route, and th ...

Small-scale, deformable riblets, embedded within the viscous sublayer of a turbulent boundary layer and capable to adapt to the overlying motion, are studied. The wall micro-grooves are made of a linearly elastic material and can undergo small deformations ...

For a graph F, we say a hypergraph H is a Berge-F if it can be obtained from F by replacing each edge of F with a hyperedge containing it. We say a hypergraph is Berge-F-saturated if it does not contain a Berge-F, but adding any hyperedge creates a copy of ...

The present paper reports on an experimental investigation of the structural, electrical and optical properties of Ru rich Ru1-xTixO2 thin films. Rutile single-phaseRu(1-x)Ti(x)O(2) thin films have been deposited by reactive hybrid High-power impulse magne ...

2D semiconducting materials have become the central component of various nanoelectronic devices and sensors. For sensors operating in liquid, it is crucial to efficiently block the electron transfer that occurs between the electrodes contacting the 2D mate ...

Chalcogen vacancies are generally considered to be the most common point defects in transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) semiconductors because of their low formation energy in vacuum and their frequent observation in transmission electron microscopy stud ...

In this work, a Mg(0001) single crystal is used as a novel template to grow 2D supramolecular nano-architectures. By using scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and high-resolution X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (HR-XPS), the formation of either a homo-mo ...

We study the band gap of finite NA=7 armchair graphene nanoribbons (7-AGNRs) on Au(111) through scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy combined with density functional theory calculations. The band gap of 7-AGNRs with lengths of 8 nm and more is conver ...

We demonstrate a novel method for fabricating single crystal diamond diffraction gratings based on crystallographic etching that yields high-quality diffraction gratings from commercially available diamond plates. Both V-groove and rectangular gratin ...

In Atomic force microscopy (AFM), the tip-sample interaction force can be measured through two primary detection techniques: optical beam detection (OBD) and electrical (self-sensing) readout. Compared to the optical method, the convenience of the self-sen ...

The atomic level understanding and control of the electron transport has important advantages for many applications, such as molecular electronics, solar cells and sensors. The target of my Ph.D. work is to investigate electronic and chemical properties of ...
