. We study very weak solutions to scalar Euler-Lagrange equations associated with quadratic convex functionals. We investigate whether W1,1 solutions are necessarily W 1,2 Nash and Schauder applicable. We answer this question positively for a suitable clas ...

This paper presents the new 2D electrostatic particle -in -cell code FENNECS developed to study the formation of magnetized non -neutral plasmas in geometries with azimuthal symmetry. This code has been developed in the domain of gyrotron electron gun desi ...

The thesis is dedicated to the study of two main partial differential equations (PDEs) in fluid dynamics: the Navier-Stokes equations, which describe the motion of incompressible fluids, and the transport equation with divergence-free velocity fields, whic ...

In this paper, we set the mathematical foundations of the Dynamical Low-Rank Approximation (DLRA) method for stochastic differential equations (SDEs). DLRA aims at approximating the solution as a linear combination of a small number of basis vectors with r ...

The transmission eigenvalue problem is a system of two second-order elliptic equations of two unknowns equipped with the Cauchy data on the boundary. In this work, we establish the Weyl law for the eigenvalues and the completeness of the generalized eigenf ...

We present a nonperturbative recipe for directly computing the S-matrix in strongly-coupled QFTs. The method makes use of spectral data obtained in a Hamiltonian framework and can be applied to a wide range of theories, including potentially QCD. We demons ...

We carry out a weakly nonlinear analysis of the centrifugal instability for a columnar vortex in a rotating fluid, and compare the results to those of the semi-linear model derived empirically by Yim et al. (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 897, 2020, A34). The asympt ...

We introduce a high-order spline geometric approach for the initial boundary value problem for Maxwell's equations. The method is geometric in the sense that it discretizes in structure preserving fashion the two de Rham sequences of differential forms inv ...

Maxwell's equations govern light propagation and its interaction with matter. Therefore, the solution of Maxwell's equations using computational electromagnetic simulations plays a critical role in understanding light-matter interaction and designing optic ...

The interior transmission eigenvalue problem is a system of partial differential equations equipped with Cauchy data on the boundary: the transmission conditions. This problem appears in the inverse scattering theory for inhomogeneous media when, for some ...

Local modifications of a computational domain are often performed in order to simplify the meshing process and to reduce computational costs and memory requirements. However, removing geometrical features of a domain often introduces a non-negligible error ...

Thermally stimulated current (TSC) is a widely used technique to assess trap states and extract their density, energy, and capture rate using analytical expressions. In many cases, the latter are derived from physical models pertaining to inorganic semicon ...

When applying isogeometric analysis to engineering problems, one often deals with multi-patch spline spaces that have incompatible discretisations, e.g. in the case of moving objects. In such cases mortaring has been shown to be advantageous. This contribu ...

Modern manufacturing engineering is based on a ``design-through-analysis'' workflow. According to this paradigm, a prototype is first designed with Computer-aided-design (CAD) software and then finalized by simulating its physical behavior, which usually i ...

We investigate experimentally and theoretically diffusiophoretic separation of negatively charged particles in a rectangular channel flow, driven by CO2 dissolution from one side-wall. Since the negatively charged particles create an exclusion zone near th ...

This thesis focuses on the numerical analysis of partial differential equations (PDEs) with an emphasis on first and second-order fully nonlinear PDEs. The main goal is the design of numerical methods to solve a variety of equations such as orthogonal maps ...

Wave phenomena manifest in nature as electromagnetic waves, acoustic waves, and gravitational waves among others. Their descriptions as partial differential equations in electromagnetics, acoustics, and fluid dynamics are ubiquitous in science and engineer ...

This work is devoted to the study of the main models which describe the motion of incompressible fluids, namely the Navier-Stokes, together with their hypodissipative version, and the Euler equations. We will mainly focus on the analysis of non-smooth weak ...

In this paper, we establish the discreteness of transmission eigenvalues for Maxwell's equations. More precisely, we show that the spectrum of the transmission eigenvalue problem is discrete, if the electromagnetic parameters $\eps, , \mu, , \heps, , \h ...

Capture zone equations for a multi-well system in strip-shaped confined and unconfined aquifers with and without regional flow are presented. The aquifer is limited by two parallel boundaries that are either no flow (barrier) or inflow (variable head) so t ...
