Road space distribution among multiple modes of transport in urban networks has attracted the interest of several researchers and policy planners. Traditionally, these problems are solved by ignoring operational and dynamic characteristics of multi-modal c ...

Adapting the transmission rate of video telephony Internet applications in order to guarantee the maximal communication quality is still an open and extremely challenging problem. The congestion control algorithm, which is the algorithm responsible for adj ...

In today’s modern datacenters, the waiting time spent within a server’s queue is a major contributor of the end-to-end tail latency of μs-scale remote procedure calls. In traditional TCP, congestion control handles in-network congestion, while flow control ...

Due to the presence of buffers in the inner network nodes, each congestion event leads to buffer queueing and thus to an increasing end-to-end delay. In the case of delay sensitive applications, a large delay might not be acceptable and a solution to prope ...

Congestion control may be provided. A set of rules may allow a congestion control process to switch from delay-mode to loss-mode (e.g., in the presence of loss-based flows) and back to delay-mode (e.g., when loss-based flows stop). Fairness properties of t ...

A new gating strategy for concentric cities based on the notion of the macroscopic or network fundamental diagram and the feedback-based gating concept is introduced and successfully tested. Different regions of large-scale urban networks may experience co ...

Pricing is considered an effective management policy to reduce traffic congestion in transportation networks. In this paper we combine a macroscopic model of traffic congestion in urban networks with an agent-based simulator to study congestion pricing sch ...

Wireless mesh networks were designed as a mean to rapidly deliver large-scale communication capabilities without the support of any prior infrastructure. Among the different properties of mesh networks, the self-organizing feature is particularly interesti ...

Congestion is a phenomenon that arises in a variety of contexts. The most familiar representation is urban traffic congestion. Nonetheless, phenomenons such as prison cell congestion, hospital bed blocking or, at a cellular scale, ribosome congestion, also ...
