Design optimization of distributed energy systems has become an interest of a wider group of researchers due the capability of these systems to integrate non-dispatchable renewable energy technologies such as solar PV and wind. White box models, using line ...

Improving the energy sustainability of our cities involves the integration of multiple renewable energy technologies into existing energy infrastructure, stretching the capabilities of traditional energy systems to the limit. To consider the transition tak ...

Flexibility of the energy system plays a vital role when integrating non-dispatchable renewable energy technologies. However, flexibility of the energy system has been often discussed only focusing on the operation of the energy system. This study extends ...

Reflection is a fuzzy concept. In this article we reveal the paradoxes involved in studying the nature of reflection. Whereas some scholars emphasize its discursive nature, we go further and underline its resemblance to the self-biased dialogue Socrates ha ...

Polarimetric radar-based hydrometeor classification is the procedure of identifying different types of hydrometeors by exploiting polarimetric radar observations. The main drawback of the existing supervised classification methods, mostly based on fuzzy lo ...

Background Stroke survivors often suffer from mobility deficits. Current clinical evaluation methods, including questionnaires and motor function tests, cannot provide an objective measure of the patients’ mobility in daily life. Physical activity performa ...

Here we present a low-power magnetic measurement system based on only two Hall-effect elements and a permanent magnet integrated into a smart knee prosthesis to accurately measure knee flexion-extension. The smart prosthesis was tested in a robotic knee si ...

People in developed countries spend today most of their time inside buildings as part of the modern way of life. As a result, the building sector accounts for almost 40% of the total energy consumption and a big part of the energy bill goes to maintain the ...

This paper proposed a fuzzy controller for the autonomous navigation problem of robotic systems in a dynamic and uncertain environment. In particular, we are interested in determining the robot motion to reach the target while ensuring their own safety and ...

The novelty this article brings is the use of neural networks and neuro-fuzzy modeling to take the engine knock detection based on pressure and vibration samples taken from an internal combustion engine to the next step from previous achievements, the ulti ...

This research study addresses issues of transport modeling aiming to the recognition of vehicles, with perspective to generate a knowledge base for an automatic recognition of vehicles from similar type of data. Based on two datasets consisted of multi-spe ...

This paper presents the concept of a methodology for identifying in real time risky motorway traffic conditions. This research effort is to automate the extraction of traffic patterns from large data archives using advanced computing techniques. These patt ...

The interactions between fluid and sediment in the swash zone dominate the erosion or accretion of the beach, and they act as boundary conditions for nearshore hydrodynamic and morphodynamic models. Thus, the evaluation of sediment transport is of particul ...

Soccer has always been one of the most popular videogame genres. When designing a soccer game, designers tend to focus on the game field and game play due to the limited computational resources, and thus the modelling of virtual spectators is paid less att ...

Virtual marketplaces on the Web provide people with great facilities to buy and sell goods similar to conventional markets. In traditional business, reputation is subjectively built for known persons and companies as the deals are made in the course of tim ...

The objective of the work presented here is to develop a low cost active above knee prosthetic device exploiting bipedal robotics technology which will work utilizing the available biological motor control circuit properly integrated with a Central Pattern ...

In this paper we present results of computational experiments where multi-objective algorithms were used to tune a controller for blind movements in a room of the LESO experimental building. The blind controller which is based on fuzzy logic was optimized ...

This paper presents the results of computational experiments where multi-objective algorithms were used to tune a controller for blind movements in a residential building and a room of the LESO (Solar Energy and Building Physics Laboratory) experimental bu ...

The Cross Connected Intermediate Level (CCIL) Voltage Source Inverter Topology was first introduced in 2007 [1]. The idea behind this novel multilevel topology is to explore the area of reduced number of component topologies producing large number of volta ...

Among the driving processes responsible for riparian forest dynamics the species-specific impact of flooding on the development of woody plants plays a key role-particularly for lowland rivers. Only a few of the forest succession models currently in use in ...
