Catalytic hydrogen combustion (CHC) plays a crucial role in enhancing the safety and efficiency of fuel cells and electrolysers, thereby promoting the H2 economy. To increase the catalytic activity of supported metal particles for CHC, the active surface a ...

Electroreduction of nitrate to ammonia provides an interesting pathway for wastewater treatment and valorization. Cu-based catalysts are active for the conversion of NO3− to NO2− but suffer from an inefficient hydrogenation process of NO2−. Herein, CuxO/N- ...

This paper shows first quantitative analysis of the detachment processes in the MAST Upgrade Super-X divertor (SXD). We identify an unprecedented impact of plasma-molecular interactions involving molecular ions (likely D2+ ), resulting in strong ion sinks ...

The atomic motion controls important properties of materials, such as thermal transport, phase transitions, and vibrational spectra. However, simulating the ionic dynamics is exceptionally challenging when quantum fluctuations are relevant (e.g., at low te ...

Methylidyne, CH(ads), adsorbed on a Pt(211) surface and its interaction with chemisorbed hydrogen atoms was studied by reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS). Methylidyne was formed on Pt(211) by methane dissociation from a molecular beam foll ...

X-ray free-electron lasers (FELs) deliver ultrabright X-ray pulses, but not the sequences of phase-coherent pulses required for time-domain interferometry and control of quantum states. For conventional split-and-delay schemes to produce such sequences, th ...

A porous InGaN/GaN blue light-emitting diode is demonstrated using selective area sublimation. Transmission electron microscopy reveals that the structure is porous down to the Si substrate; however, the porosity is higher in the GaN buffer, while smaller ...

Pincer ligated coordination complexes of base metals have shown remarkable catalytic activity for hydrogenation/dehydrogenation of CO2. The recently reported MeNCH2CH2(Pr-i(2))Co(I)PNP-pincer complex was shown to exhibit substantially higher catalytic ...

Colicins are bacterial toxins targeting Gram-negative bacteria, including E. coli and related Enterobacteriaceae strains. Some colicins form ion-gated pores in the inner membrane of attacked bacteria that are lethal to their target. Colicin Ia was the firs ...

Among the perovskites used to catalyze the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-delta (BSCF) exhibits excellent activity which is thought to be related to dynamic reconstruction at the flexible perovskite surface due to accommodation of ...

Heterogeneous catalyst preparation has been performed for close to a century but has been rapidly evolving spurred by the evolution in synthetic techniques and growing needs in energy, chemicals and materials. An increasing number of catalyst synthesis str ...

Sub-cellular trace element quantifications of nano-heterogeneities in brain tissues offer unprecedented ways to explore at elemental level the interplay between cellular compartments in neurodegenerative pathologies. We designed a quasi-correlative method ...

The interaction of ions with interfaces influences numerous processes in chemistry, physics, and biology, while different ion species behave differently at hydrophobic or hydrophilic interfaces. Despite its importance, ion specificity and its relation to s ...

Nanoscale variations in the composition of an AlxGa1−xAs shell around a GaAs nanowire affect the nanowire functionality and can lead to the formation of localized quantum emitters. These composition fluctuations can be the consequence of variations of crys ...
