Time reversal exploits the invariance of electromagnetic wave propagation in reciprocal and lossless media to localize radiating sources. Time-reversed measurements are back-propagated in a simulated domain and converge to the unknown source location. The ...

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Equivalent Circuit Models (ECMs) are widely used to characterize the impedance and estimate parameters of electrochemical systems such as batteries. We use a generic ECM with ten parameters grouped to model ...

Using ultrafast broad-band transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy of photoexcited MAPbBr3 thin films with probe continua in the visible and the mid- to deep-ultraviolet (UV) ranges, we capture the ultrafast renormalization at the fundamental gap at the R s ...

The ITER Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating and Current Drive (ECRH&CD) system relies on 1 MW 170 GHz Gyrotrons to provide the mm-wave power needed for plasma heating, current drive, and magneto-hydrodynamic control. The design and modeling of the contro ...

The interaction of light and matter enables nonlinear frequency conversion and the creation of coherent currents. The optical control of electric currents is of fundamental relevance and prominent research focus in the last decades. These photocurrents ena ...

This thesis is a study of the global well-posedness of the Cauchy problems for half-wave maps from the Minkowski space of dimension n+1 to the 2-dimensional sphere and the hyperbolic plane. The work is mainly based on the results from Krieger-Sire 17' in ...

The ITER Heating Neutral Beam (HNB) source prototype SPIDER (Source for the Production of Ions of Deuterium Extracted from a Radio frequency plasma), hosted at the Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) in Padova, Italy, has recently started operating with evap ...

Stable and uniform beams with low divergence are required in particle accelerators; therefore, beyond the accelerated current, measuring the beam current spatial uniformity and stability over time is necessary to assess the beam performance, since these pa ...

The classical Lagrangian of the Standard Model enjoys the symmetry of the full conformal group if the mass of the Higgs boson is put to zero. This is a hint that conformal symmetry may play a fundamental role in the ultimate theory describing nature. The o ...

Defining a universal metric for Quality of Experience (QoE) is notoriously hard due to the complex relationship between low-level performance metrics and user satisfaction. The most common metric, the Mean Opinion Score (MOS), has well-known biases and inc ...

An important feature of turbulent boundary layers are persistent large-scale coherent structures in the flow. Here, we use Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD), a data-driven technique designed to detect spatio-temporal coherence, to construct optimal low-dime ...

This paper presents an output capacitor-less low-dropout regulator (LDO) with a bias switching scheme for biomedical applications with dual-range load currents. Power optimization is crucial for systems with multiple activation modes such as neural interfa ...

The connectedness percolation threshold (phi(c)) for spherically symmetric, randomly distributed fractal aggregates is investigated as a function of the fractal dimension (d(F)) of the aggregates through a mean-field approach. A pair of aggregates (each of ...

A geometric method of lattice reduction based on cycles of directional and hyperplanar shears is presented. The deviation from cubicity at each step of the reduction is evaluated by a parameter called 'basis rhombicity' which is the sum of the absolute val ...

The concept of quasi-symmetry-a perturbatively small deviation from exact symmetry-is introduced and leads to topological materials with strong resilience to perturbations. ...

Graph sparsification has been studied extensively over the past two decades, culminating in spectral sparsifiers of optimal size (up to constant factors). Spectral hypergraph sparsification is a natural analogue of this problem, for which optimal bounds on ...

The Skinned Multi-Person Linear (SMPL) model represents human bodies by mapping pose and shape parameters to body meshes. However, not all pose and shape parameter values yield physically-plausible or even realistic body meshes. In other words, SMPL is und ...

The presence of aerodynamic vortices is widespread in nature. They can be found at small scales near the wing tip of flying insects or at bigger scale in the form of hurricanes, cyclones or even galaxies. They are identified as coherent regions of high vor ...

Paschen failures in ITER, W7-X and JT60 superconducting coils at the acceptance tests have shown that it is highly desirable to lower the coil discharge voltage (U-d) of the DEMO Toroidal Field (TF) coils. Another benefit of lowering the U-d might be the r ...

We obtain new Fourier interpolation and uniqueness results in all dimensions, extending methods and results by the first author and M. Sousa [11] and the second author [12]. We show that the only Schwartz function which, together with its Fourier transform ...
