Performance and power constraints come together with Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor technology scaling in future Exascale systems. Technology scaling makes each individual transistor more prone to faults and, due to the exponential increase in the ...

Magnetic resonance resonance (MRI) is a widely used modality to obtain in vivo tissue information. Clinical applications are near countless, and almost all body parts can be examined using an MR scanner. As the method is non invasive, does not use ionizing ...

Since its invention in the 19th century, photography has allowed to create durable images of the world around us by capturing the intensity of light that flows through a scene, first analogically by using light-sensitive material, and then, with the advent ...

We propose a novel, minimally intrusive approach to adding fault tolerance to existing complex scientific simulation codes, used for addressing a broad range of time-dependent problems on the next generation of supercomputers. Exascale systems have the pot ...

Remote Procedure Calls are widely used to connect datacenter applications with strict tail-latency service level objectives in the scale of µs. Existing solutions utilize streaming or datagram-based transport protocols for RPCs that impose overheads and li ...

Buoyancy driven flows such as gravity currents, present in nature and human made applications, are conveyors of particles or dissolved substances for long distances with clear implications for the environment. This transport depends on the triggering condi ...

We consider cyber-physical systems (CPSs) comprising a central controller that might be replicated for high-reliability, and one or more process agents. The controller receives measurements from process agents, causing it to compute and issue setpoints tha ...

Wear is the inevitable damage process of surfaces during sliding contact. According to the well-known Archard’s wear law, the wear volume scales with the real contact area and as a result is proportional to the load. Decades of wear experiments, however, s ...

Replication has recently gained attention in the context of fault tolerance for large scale MPI HPC applications. Existing implementations try to cover all MPI codes and to be independent from the underlying library. In this paper, we evaluate the advantag ...
