Semiconductor materials have given rise to today's digital technology and consumer electronics. Widespread adoption is closely linked to the ability to process and integrate them in devices at scale. Where flexibility and large surfaces are required, such ...

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) emit near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence that is ideal for optical sensing. However, the low quantum yields diminish the sensor’s signal-to-noise ratio and limits the penetration depths for in vivo measurements. In this ...

In this study, we compare the electrical and optical signal transduction of nanoscale biosensors based on single -walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). Solution processable single-stranded (ss) DNA-wrapped SWCNTs were used for the fabrication of the distinct s ...

Highly energy-efficient wireless sensor nodes are a prerequisite for a sustainable operation of the Internet of things. Therefore, classical approaches for system design based on digital signal processing are not a viable solution, but system design has to ...

In strained mechanical resonators, the concurrence of tensile stress and geometric nonlinearity dramatically reduces dissipation. This phenomenon, called dissipation dilution, is employed in mirror suspensions of gravitational-wave interferometers and at t ...

Sensors capable of detecting and classifying volatile organic compounds (VOC) have been gaining more attention by the advent of internet-of-things (IoT) enabled devices and integration of various sensing elements into hand-held and portable devices. The re ...

Surfactants offer a tunable approach for modulating the exposed surface area of a nanoparticle. They further present a scalable and cost-effective means for suspending single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), which have demonstrated practical use as fluore ...

The design of functional structures from primary building blocks requires a thorough understanding of how size, shape, and particle-particle interactions steer the assembly process. Specifically, for electrically conductive networks build from carbon nanot ...

We report the universal boosting impact of a true negative capacitance (NC) effect on digital and analog performances of Tunnel FETs (TFETs), mirrored for the first time in near hysteresis-free experiments and exploiting the S-shaped polarization character ...

Solid-state nanoporous membranes able to control ionic flows at the molecular level could have important applications in fields of research such as water filtration, nanomedicine, energy production, drug delivery, and bio-chemical analysis. The ability to ...

During the last decades, the usage of silicon photodetectors, both as stand-alone sensor or integrated in arrays, grew tremendously. They are now found in almost any application and any market range, from leisure products to high-end scientific apparatuses ...

As the scaling of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology is reaching fundamental limitations, novel device concepts and materials have started to be investigated to overcome the scaling challenges for integrated circuits. Graphene has be ...

This paper presents the simplified charge-based EKV MOSFET model and shows that it can be used for advanced CMOS processes despite its very few parameters. The concept of inversion coefficient is then presented as an essential design parameter that spans t ...

The lack of selectivity toward a particular analyte has always been the primary concern regarding CNT-based gas sensors. For that reason, in here we present a gas discrimination strategy that focuses on the electrode-CNT junction. The junction is shown to ...

Biosensors can effectively be used to monitor multiple metabolites such as glucose, lactate, ATP and drugs in the human body. Continuous monitoring of these metabolites is essential for patients with chronic or critical conditions. Moreover, this can be us ...

We report wafer-level fabrication of resonant-body, carbon nanotube (CNT)field-effect transistors (FETs) in a dual-gate configuration. An integration density of >10(6) CNTFETs/cm(2), an assembly yield of >80%, and nanoprecision have been simultaneously obt ...

This paper reports the successful experimental demonstration of the localized growth of horizontal, dense carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays in situ and at the wafer scale. The selectivity and directionality of the CNT catalytic growth process along with the ade ...

The quest for technologies with superior device characteristics has showcased Carbon-Nanotube Field-Effect Transistors (CNFET) into limelight. In this work we present physical design techniques to improve the yield of CNFET circuits in the presence of Carb ...

Nanoelectromechanical (NEM) switches have the potential to complement or replace traditional CMOS transistors in the area of ultra-low-power digital electronics. This paper reports the demonstration of prototype circuits including the first 3-stage ring os ...

In this thesis the electrical properties, magnetic states and spin wave resonances of individual magnetically hollow ferromagnetic nanotubes have been studied. They were prepared from the different materials Nickel (Ni), Permalloy (Py) and Cobalt-Iron-Boro ...
