The alkyne motif is a versatile functional group often encountered in organic chemistry. It can be involved in various transformations such as the alkyne-azide cycloaddition and has found widespread application in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology and ...

The constant urge to construct new molecules in an economical and sustainable fashion led to the development of numerous metal-catalyzed transformations. Organocatalysts consisting of abundant and more sustainable elements offer an elegant solution to over ...

Bicyclic carbocycles containing a high fraction of Csp3 have become highly attractive synthetic targets because of the multiple applications they have found in medicinal chemistry. The formal cycloaddition of bicyclobutanes (BCBs) with two- or three-atom p ...

A general approach to the direct deoxygenative transformation of primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols has been developed. It undergoes through phosphoranyl radical intermediates generated by the addition of exogenous iodine radical to trivalent alkoxy ...

Combining superconducting resonators and quantum dots has triggered tremendous progress in quantum information, however, attempts at coupling a resonator to even charge parity spin qubits have resulted only in weak spin-photon coupling. Here, we integrate ...

Among the numerous existing chemical motifs, alkenes, alkynes, enol ethers and enamides, with an unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, are versatile functional groups that are found in many natural products and bioactive compounds. They are widely used as valuab ...

Indole is one of the most important heterocycles widely present in bioactive natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and materials. Being easily accessible, the 2-nitrostyrenes are attractive starting materials for the indole synthesis and the Cad ...

Alkynes are found in a multitude of natural or synthetic bioactive compounds. In addition to the capacity of these chemical motifs to impact the physicochemical properties of a molecule of interest, the well-established reactivity of alkynes makes them ide ...

Coupling of space-separated resonators is interesting for quantum and communication technologies. In this work, we show that antiferromagnetic resonance in separated parallel-plane slabs of hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) couple cooperatively to terahertz electroma ...

A photochemical [2+2] cycloaddition of alkynyl boronates and maleimides is reported. The developed protocol provided 35–70 % yield of maleimide-derived cyclobutenyl boronates and demonstrated wide compatibility with various functional groups. The synthetic ...

The first chapter of this thesis describe the development of a general synthesis of ynimines, an under-exploited motif in organic chemistry. In the presence of an inexpensive copper catalyst and 2,2'-biquinoline, reaction of easily accessible O-acyloximes ...

Efficient valorization of lignin, a sustainable source of functionalized aromatic products, would reduce dependence on fossil-derived feedstocks. Oxidative depolymerization is frequently applied to lignin to generate phenolic mono- mers. However, due to th ...

For decades transition-metal oxides have generated a huge interest due to the multitude of physical phenomena they exhibit. In this class of materials, the rare-earth nickelates, RNiO3, stand out for their rich phase diagram stemming from complex couplings ...

We report the use of photocatalysis for the homolytic ring-opening of carbonyl cyclopropanes. In contrast to previous studies, our approach does not require a metal cocatalyst or a strong reductant. The carbonyl cyclopropanes can be employed for both [2σ + ...

We experimentally demonstrate the coherent propagation of magnon polarons, the hybridized excitations formed by the coupling of spin waves and Rayleigh/Love surface acoustic waves, in a heterostructure consisting of ferroelectric BaTiO3 and ferromagnetic L ...

Ynolates or ketenyl anions, [RCCO]-, are negatively charged reactive intermediates, which can be generated in situ and used for divergent chemical transformations. Ynolates can react either at the oxygen or carbon centres or across the C-C triple bond, mak ...

The acetate fraction is the fourth most abundant fraction by weight in many plant species and can be easily extracted as acetic acid in high yields. We have previously shown that acetic acid obtained from steam pretreated beech wood could be upgraded in a ...

Pd-catalyzed cyclizative functionalization of γ-hydroxyalkenes affords tetrahydrofuran derivatives via a key 5-exo-trig oxypalladation step. Herein, we report a palladium(II)-catalyzed, Selectfluor-mediated formal 6-endo-trig fluorocycloetherification of γ ...

Metal plasticity is an inherently multiscale phenomenon due to the complex long-range field of atomistic dislocations that are the primary mechanism for plastic deformation in metals. Atomistic/Continuum (A/C) coupling methods are computationally efficient ...

Near-surface mercury and ozone depletion events occur in the lowest part of the atmosphere during Arctic spring. Mercury depletion is the first step in a process that transforms long-lived elemental mercury to more reactive forms within the Arctic that are ...
