Pregnancy brings about profound changes in the mammary gland to prepare for lactation, yet immunocyte changes that accompany this rapid remodeling are incompletely understood. We comprehensively analyzed mammary T cells, revealing a marked increase in CD4+ ...

Outbreaks of chilblains were reported during the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the essential role of type I interferon (I-IFN) in protective immunity against SARS-CoV-2 and the association of chilblains with inherited type I interferonopathies, we hypothesized ...

Despite the high prevalence of gastric diseases like gastric cancer and peptic ulcer disease attributed to Helicobacter pylori infections, there is still only a limited understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Existing in vitro models are either two-dim ...

Mitochondria are multifaceted organelles with crucial roles in energy generation, cellular signalling and a range of synthesis pathways. The study of mitochondrial biology is complicated by its own small genome, which is matrilineally inherited and not sub ...

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy continues to struggle in reaching its full potential in solid tumors, largely due to the tumor microenvironment (TME) where various small molecules induce immunosuppressive signaling in CAR T-cells. Two key mo ...

Acute kidney failure and chronic kidney disease are global health issues steadily rising in incidence and prevalence. Animal models on a single genetic background have so far failed to recapitulate the clinical presentation of human nephropathies. Here, we ...

The specification of distinct cardiac lineages occurs before chamber formation and acquisition of bona fide atrial or ventricular identity. However, the mechanisms underlying these early specification events remain poorly understood. Here, we performed sin ...

In this thesis, we study the 3 challenges described above. First, we study different reconstruction techniques and assess the fidelity of each reconstruction results by means of structured illumination and phase conjugation. By reconstructing the 3D refrac ...

PD-1/PD-L1 pathway plays a role in inhibiting immune response. Therapeutic antibodies aimed at blocking the PD-1/PD-L1 interaction have entered clinical development and have been approved for a variety of cancers. However, the clinical benefits are reduced ...

Human mammary epithelial cells can proliferate and reorganize into polarized multi-cellular constructs in-vitro, thereby functioning as an important model system in recapitulating key steps of in-vivo morphogenesis. Current approaches to constructing such ...
