The quasi-continuous exhaust (QCE) regime is a regime that is naturally type-I ELM-free. It combines the high density at the plasma edge needed for power exhaust with the high normalised energy confinement typical for H-mode operation. In the QCE regime la ...

Early heating tokamak plasmas during the current ramp-up is a common approach to efficiently access advanced tokamak (AT) configurations. We have previously presented an analytical predictive model to aid in the AT scenario design, optimized for a single s ...

Gyrotrons are essential devices for the development of nuclear fusion, but their design and reliable operation still present numerous challenges. In particular, certain gyrotrons encounter issues related to trapped electron clouds in the magnetron injectio ...

The objective of thermonuclear fusion consists of producing electricity from the coalescence of light nuclei in high temperature plasmas. The most promising route to fusion envisages the confinement of such plasmas with magnetic fields, whose most studied ...

We prove closed-form equations for the exact high-dimensional asymptotics of a family of first-order gradient-based methods, learning an estimator (e.g., M-estimator, shallow neural network) from observations on Gaussian data with empirical risk minimizati ...

Managing divertor plasmas is crucial for operating reactor scale tokamak devices due to heat and particle flux constraints on the divertor target. Simulation is an important tool to understand and control these plasmas, however, for real-time applications ...

The effect of toroidal rotation on both turbulent and neoclassical transport of tungsten (W) in tokamaks is investigated using the flux-driven, global, nonlinear 5D gyrokinetic code GYSELA. Nonlinear simulations are carried out with different levels of mom ...

Various types of Alfven eigenmodes (AEs) have been destabilized by fast ions over a broad frequency range from similar to 80 kHz to similar to 700 kHz in a series of JET experiments in mixed D-He-3 plasmas heated with the three-ion ICRF scenario (2020 Noce ...

In a typical Nb3Sn cable for fusion applications, the knowledge of the strain state of Nb3Sn filaments is important to predict and interpret the conductor performance in operation. Amongst the relevant strain sources, the predominant is the thermal strain ...

Electricity production and consumption must be balanced for the electrical grid. However, the rapidly growing intermittent power sources are now challenging the supply-demand balance, leading to large flexibility needs for grid management. The plant integr ...

An asymmetry in the number density of left- and right-handed fermions is known to give rise to a new term in the induction equation that can result in a dynamo instability. At high temperatures, when a chiral asymmetry can survive for long enough, this chi ...

An integrated model capable of self-consistent Ion Cyclotron Resonant Heating (ICRH) simulations has been developed. This model includes both full shaping and pressure effects, warm contributions to the dielectric tensor, pressure anisotropy and finite orb ...

Low frequency electrostatic instabilities are investigated on TORPEX [Fasoli, Labit, McGrath, Muller, Podesta, and Poli, Bull. Am. Phys. Soc. 48, 119 (2003)], a toroidal device for basic plasma physics experiments with a toroidal magnetic field 100 mT and ...
