The use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) is widely considered the most promis-ing approach to reduce CO2 emissions relative to cement production. SCMs are not commonly present in binders used for special applications. On the other hand, due t ...

Valorisation of locally available clays for producing blended cements is crucial for a widespread adoption of sustainable binders incorporating these materials. In some places, clays can be intermixed with small amounts of iron sulfides, which could eventu ...

This study investigates chloride binding in blended cement pastes exposed to 0.5 M NaCl solutions (with and without pH adjustment) using X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy image analysis (edxia). The aim is to better understand the ...

The use of clays as resource of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) for a new generation of low-carbon cements and concretes is currently the subject of intense research efforts. To this purpose, a large number of clay resources have been explored, ...

RILEM TC 267-TRM is studying tests for the reactivity supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). In the first phase, the lime reactivity (LR) test, which is standardised in Indian standard (IS)-1727, gave promising correlations with 90-days cement mortar ...

Proportioning the dosage of Ground Calcium Carbonates (GCC) in cementitious materials, beyond current normative levels, is one of the most promising ways towards sustainability of mortar and concrete technology. Performance parameters such as the water/bin ...

Bed-joint structural repointing is a widely used strengthening technique in historic masonry constructions, particularly in applications where the material appearance needs to be preserved. Despite its wide use, limited research is available on the effecti ...

Two low CO2 cement systems are investigated: one made with the use of supplementary cementitious materi-als (SCMs) (metakaolin and limestone) and the other an alternative binder, calcium sulfoaluminate cement (CSA). These two low CO2 cements contain a simi ...

This study compares the influence of two limestone fineness on strength development and cement hydration. The replacement of clinker by 20% of fine limestone (d(v,50) = 2 mu m and SSA = 4,21 m(2)/g) gives similar strength development to PC up to 7 days. Fi ...

The climate emergency requires the adoption of strategies and technologies that effectively reduce CO2 emissions in the short to midterm to keep the global temperature rise below 2 degrees C above pre-industrial levels. Concrete is the substance most consu ...

Treatment by accelerated carbonation has been widely studied to enhance the quality of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) and hence the performance of new concrete produced with the RCA. This is often ascribed to the densification of RCA. This study invest ...

Exposure of concrete to the atmosphere changes the microstructure of the cement paste. However, knowledge about the alteration of the porosity due to drying is typically not considered in deterioration processes of the hardened cement paste. The purpose of ...
