In recent years ionic liquids have emerged as an important class of compounds for the synthesis of metal nanoparticles. The significant advantage of using ionic liquids is their dual role of reaction solvent and nanoparticle stabilizer. The variability of ...

Investigating molecular excitations with femtosecond time resolution is of pivotal importance to understand the out-of-equilibrium processes taking place in molecular systems upon light absorption. The photochemistry of solvated species is heavily determin ...

Despite significant advances in the fabrication and applications of microreactors for production of chemicals, their use for catalytic reactions remains a challenge, especially in fine chemical synthesis where the selectivity towards the desired product is ...

This thesis comprises the study of two types of 2D materials, those stabilized by non-covalent and those by covalent interactions. They are synthesized and studied on well-defined metallic surfaces in ultra-high vacuum (UHV). The self-assembly of terephtha ...

C-C and C-N bonds are some of the most common structures in molecules ranging from drugs to catalysts and to food additives. Many coupling reactions were developed to form these types of bonds with excellent selectivity and good performance. Still, the syn ...

Valorization of CO2, an abundant C(1) synthon, into platform chemicals is of growing interest. In this context, a key reaction is the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides to form carbonates (CCE). A series of organocatalysts for this reaction, based on imidazo ...

Transition-metal-catalyzed hydrosilylation of olefins is one of the most important methods for the preparation of organosilicon compounds, which have broad applications in both synthetic and material chemistry. For decades, precious metals, principally pla ...

CuSCN thin films (optimized previously for perovskite photovoltaics) are deposited on glass, F:SnO2 (FTO), Au, glass-like carbon (GC), and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). They exhibit capacitive charging in an electrochemical window from ca. -0.3 to 0.2 V vs ...

Heterocycles are important compounds in organic chemistry. To introduce functional groups on heterocycles or synthesize functionalized heterocycles stays a hot topic of research. Among all the functional groups, alkynes attracted a lot of attention not onl ...

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have attracted a substantial interest in the last 30 years for the conversion of solar power to electricity. An important component is the redox mediator effecting the transport of charge between the photoelectrode and th ...
