The paper deals with the preparation and investigation of a series of polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) based on polysulfone matrix and an azomethine liquid crystal. The PDLC systems were prepared by thermal induced phase separation method. Their m ...

Radioactive iodine-129 (I-129) and technetium-99 (Tc-9(9)) pose a risk to groundwater due to their long half-lives, toxicity, and high environmental mobility. Based on literature reviewed in Moore et al. (2019) and Pearce et aL (2019), natural and engineer ...

2D semiconducting materials have become the central component of various nanoelectronic devices and sensors. For sensors operating in liquid, it is crucial to efficiently block the electron transfer that occurs between the electrodes contacting the 2D mate ...

In Atomic force microscopy (AFM), the tip-sample interaction force can be measured through two primary detection techniques: optical beam detection (OBD) and electrical (self-sensing) readout. Compared to the optical method, the convenience of the self-sen ...

The unique functionalities of polyelectrolyte brushes depend on several types of specific interactions, including solvent structure effects, hydrophobic forces, electrostatic interactions, and specific ion interactions. Subtle variations in the solution en ...

Thermal scanning probe lithography (t-SPL) is an advanced lithography technique in which a heated atomic force microscope tip locally modifies a sample material. Due to the nanometer-sized tip apex diameter, t-SPL enables patterning of sub-10 nm structures ...

Nanoscale science is an emerging field of our time and opens a broad horizon for applications in almost every area of human activity, from medicine to energy storage. As usual, there are numerous challenges in the way of progress, which slow down the devel ...

Supramolecular nanostructures with tunable dimensionalities are fabricated by deposition of benzene carboxylic acids on the Cu(110) surface. By tailoring the number and position of the functional moieties, the structure of the final molecular assemblies ca ...

The rational synthesis of novel materials requires the control over the arrangement of matter in order to meet the desired properties for applications and devices. Ultimately, control means to define the place of each atom and determine its chemical state, ...

DNA is the bio-polymer containing the genetic information needed for the development and functioning for all living organisms. It has a polymeric structure consisting of units called nucleotides, each consisting of a non-polar, hydrophobic interior (the ba ...

This paper presents a microfluidic push-pull probe for scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) consisting of a working microelectrode, an integrated counter/reference electrode and two microchannels for pushing and pulling an electrolyte solution to and ...

The influence of the density of metallic atoms on the formation of supramolecular structures onto Si surface alloys is investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy. Terephthalic acid (TPA) adsorption experiments are performed on the Si(111) alpha- and bet ...

Topographic nanostructuring of surfaces is a promising concept, in particular to improve the bio-integration of titanium orthopedic implants. In this context, a new method for the nanostructuring of anodised titanium surfaces was developed. Ordered topogra ...

A soft stylus microelectrode probe has been developed to carry out scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) of rough, tilted, and large substrates in contact mode. It is fabricated by first ablating a microchannel in a polyethylene terephthalate thin fil ...

Biodegradable viscoelastic poly(ester urethane)-based scaffolds show great promise for tissue engineering. In this study, the preparation of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (nHA)/poly(ester urethane) composite scaffolds using a salt-leaching-phase inverse pro ...

Inkjet printing of functional materials, photolithography and micromolding are 3 different techniques largely used in the field of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) with increasing interest for the fabrication of new devices and the development of new ...

Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM) and copper staining are combined to achieve visualisation of proteins on surfaces. Proteins are adsorbed on a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane or on a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) surface and stained us ...

The adsorption of terephthalic acid [C6H4(COOH)(2), TPA] on a Pd(111) surface has been investigated by means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy under ultrahig ...

This thesis is primarily concerned with optical properties of adsorbed C60 molecules on metal and insulating substrates. These properties were studied on a single-molecule scale, using Scanning Tunneling Microscope-induced light emission spectroscopy (STM- ...

In this thesis, the use of nanotemplates for steering the molecular self-organization at metallic surfaces is investigated. Nanotemplates are surfaces that exhibit a periodic variation of the adhesion energy on the nanometer scale. Preferential adsorption ...
