Conducting neutron scattering experiments in the presence of high pulsed magnetic fields, namely above 40 T, provides valuable information about the magnetic structures of materials. However, these experiments are challenging and time-consuming because the ...

The European Spallation Source, currently under construction in Lund, Sweden, is a multidisciplinary international laboratory. Once completed to full specifications, it will operate the world's most powerful pulsed neutron source. Supported by a 3 million ...

A key aim of the HighNESS project for the European Spallation Source is to enable cutting-edge particle physics experiments. This volume presents a conceptual design report for the NNBAR experiment. NNBAR would exploit a new cold lower moderator to make th ...

Zirconium alloys used in the nuclear industry are exposed to extreme conditions undergoing high levels of irradiation damage and corrosion. Zircaloy-2 is used as nuclear fuel cladding in boiling water reactors and for the encapsulation of the spallation ta ...

YMgNi4-based alloys exhibit reversible hydrogen absorption and desorption reactions at near room temperature. Here, we report that Co-substituted YMgNi4-based alloys exhibited higher hydrogen contents and lower hydrogen absorption and desorption reaction p ...

The neutron Time-Of-Flight (n_TOF) facility at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) is a pulsed white-spectrum neutron spallation source producing neutrons for two experimental areas: EAR1, located 185 m downstream of the spallation target, ...

An overview is provided of the 15 neutron beam instruments making up the initial instrument suite of the European Spallation Source (ESS), and being made available to the neutron user community. The ESS neutron source consists of a high-power accelerator a ...

Tritium accumulation in fusion reactor materials is considered a serious radiological issue, therefore a lot of effort has been concentrated on the development of radiometric techniques. A novel method, based on gradual dissolution, for the determination o ...

Neutral beam (NB) injector for the TCV tokamak has been designed to produce a deuterium beam with energy 30 keV, equivalent current up to 50 A, and pulse duration 2 s. The injector operation is accompanied by generation of fast neutrons produced in deuteri ...

The CAMEA ESS neutron spectrometer is designed to achieve a high detection efficiency in the horizontal scattering plane, and to maximize the use of the long pulse European Spallation Source. It is an indirect geometry time-of-flight spectrometer that uses ...

The findings of the EU 'Materials Assessment Group' (MAG), within the 2012 EU Fusion Roadmap exercise, are discussed. MAG analysed the technological readiness of structural, plasma facing and high heat flux materials for a DEMO concept to be constructed in ...

The findings of the EU Fusion Programme's 'Materials Assessment Group' (MAG), assessing readiness of Structural, Plasma Facing (PF) and High Heat Flux (HHF) materials for DEMO, are discussed. These are incorporated into the EU Fusion Power Roadmap [1] , wi ...

From high-resolution neutron-diffraction experiments we present equation-of-state (EOS) data of elemental lead as functions of both temperature (80-298 K) and applied pressure (up to 8.9 GPa), with the pressure values derived from the NaCl pressure gauge. ...

We here describe the result of simulations of 15 generic neutron instruments for the long-pulsed European Spallation Source. All instruments have been simulated for 20 different settings of the source time structure, corresponding to pulse lengths between ...

In the present work, LBE (lead-bismuth eutectic) embrittlement effects on ferritic/martensitic (FM) steels have been studied by conducting slow-strain-rate tensile (SSRT) testing on T91 and F82H steels either in Ar or in liquid LBE after irradiation to dos ...

The Supercritical-Water-Cooled Reactor (SCWR) is the Generation IV reactor concept most closely related to current light water reactors (LWRs). The SCWR builds on the vast experience with today's LWRs and supercritical coal-fired power plants. Water at sup ...

Ferritic/martensitic (FM) steels, F82H and Optimax-A, were irradiated up to 11.3 dpa/1175 appm He in Target-3 of the Swiss Spallation Neutron Source (SINQ). To investigate helium-induced hardening effect, micro-hardness and microstructure of the irradiated ...

The current doctoral research is focused on the development and validation of a coupled computational tool, to combine the advantages of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in analyzing complex flow fields and of state-of-the-art system codes employed for n ...

The angular distributions of the differential cross-sections for scattering of 14.1 MeV neutrons to the Q = 0, – 1.74, – 2.15, – 3.58, – 4.77, – (5.11 + 5.16 + 5.18), – (5.92 + 6.04 + 6.13), – 6.56 and – (6.88 + 7.0) MeV levels of 10B have been measured fo ...
