In lung and prostate adenocarcinomas, neuroendocrine (NE) transformation to an aggressive derivative resembling small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is associated with poor prognosis. We previously described dependency of SCLC on the nuclear transporter exportin ...

The identification and segmentation of histological regions of interest can provide significant support to pathologists in their diagnostic tasks. However, segmentation methods are constrained by the difficulty in obtaining pixel-level annotations, which a ...

Background: Cancer genome sequencing enables accurate classification of tumours and tumour subtypes. However, prediction performance is still limited using exome-only sequencing and for tumour types with low somatic mutation burden such as many paediatri ...

Background Currently, multi-parametric prostate MRI (mpMRI) consists of a qualitative T-2, diffusion weighted, and dynamic contrast enhanced imaging. Quantification of T-2 imaging might further standardize PCa detection and support artificial intelligence ...

Purpose Purpose of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of quantitative T2/ADC values in differentiating between PCa and lesions showing non-specific inflammatory infiltrates and atrophy, features of chronic prostatitis, as the most common his ...

This study addresses the roles of nuclear receptor corepressor 2 (NCOR2) in prostate cancer (PC) progression in response to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Reduced NCOR2 expression significantly associates with shorter disease-free survival in patients ...

In time-to-event settings, the presence of competing events complicates the definition of causal effects. Here we propose the new separable effects to study the causal effect of a treatment on an event of interest. The separable direct effect is the treatm ...

For the first time memristive biosensors developed by the incorporation of scAbs (single-chain antibody fragments) enabling label-free detection of free Prostate Specific Antigen (fPSA) for early-stage detection of prostate cancer (PC) are reported. In add ...

Expression levels of retinoic acid receptor gamma (NR1B3/RARG, encodes RAR gamma) are commonly reduced in prostate cancer (PCa). Therefore, we sought to establish the cellular and gene regulatory consequences of reduced RAR gamma expression, and determine ...

A highly-sensitive enzymatic biosensor is successfully experimented for detection of abiraterone in human serum with significance in personalized medicine and point-of-care chemotherapy of patients with metastatic prostate cancer. The dynamic range and lim ...

Memristive biosensors have been proved as excellent candidates for ultrasensitive biosensing. In this work, a novel portable bio-detection system based on memristive biosensors is designed, developed and tested for providing a significantly fast, automatic ...

Androgen-deprivation therapy is the standard treatment for prostate cancer. Despite the initial response, a fraction of cases manifest progression to castration-resistant prostate cancer. PCa recurrence is possibly due to androgen-independent cancer stem c ...

Introduction: Many studies have shown that electrostimulation of the cavernosal nerve can induce and maintain penile erection. Based on these discoveries, neurostimulation to activate the erectile response has been considered a potential solution to treat ...

Reliable, low cost, and accessible drug monitoring systems for individualized healthcare, especially chemotherapy for malignant diseases like prostate cancer and AIDS, are highly desira-ble. This is even more critical for drugs like abiraterone and TFV, wi ...

The overexpression of the folate receptor in most cancers has been widely exploited to specifically deliver folic acid (FA) coupled nanomedicines to tumors. However, complex coupling chemistry is often used to bind FA to the nanoparticles. Furthermore, ver ...

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the leading causes of death among men. Low-dose brachytherapy is an increasingly used treatment for PCa, which requires the implantation of tens of radioactive seeds. This treatment causes discomfort; these implants cannot b ...

Prostate cancer is a life-threatening malignant disease, one the most common cancer types in men and leading cause of death among men because of cancer. Considering the state of the art for the diagnosis of prostate cancer a man overall has to suffer uncom ...

In diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) has been recognized as a useful and sensitive surrogate for cell density, paving the way for non-invasive tumor staging, and characterization of treatment efficacy in cancer. How ...

Nanowire based platforms are widely reported for sensing applications and for their potential in the bio-detection field. In the present work, memristive nanowire devices are implemented for label-free sensing in liquid samples as well as in dried samples ...

Semiconductor nanowires are emerging as promising building blocks for biosensors enabling direct electrical detection of various biomolecules. In this framework, two-terminal Schottky-barrier silicon (Si) nanowire arrays that exhibit memristive electrical ...
