. We study very weak solutions to scalar Euler-Lagrange equations associated with quadratic convex functionals. We investigate whether W1,1 solutions are necessarily W 1,2 Nash and Schauder applicable. We answer this question positively for a suitable clas ...

Despite the widespread empirical success of ResNet, the generalization properties of deep ResNet are rarely explored beyond the lazy training regime. In this work, we investigate scaled ResNet in the limit of infinitely deep and wide neural networks, of wh ...

We study the problem of estimating an unknown function from noisy data using shallow ReLU neural networks. The estimators we study minimize the sum of squared data-fitting errors plus a regularization term proportional to the squared Euclidean norm of the ...

Since the birth of Information Theory, researchers have defined and exploited various information measures, as well as endowed them with operational meanings. Some were born as a "solution to a problem", like Shannon's Entropy and Mutual Information. Other ...

We propose nonparametric estimators for the second-order central moments of possibly anisotropic spherical random fields, within a functional data analysis context. We consider a measurement framework where each random field among an identically distribute ...

This paper provides a theoretical study of deep neural function approximation in reinforcement learning (RL) with the ϵ-greedy exploration under the online setting. This problem setting is motivated by the successful deep Q-networks (DQN) framework that fa ...

Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) are crucial for our understanding of Quantum Field Theory (QFT). Because of their powerful symmetry properties, they play the role of signposts in the space of QFTs. Any method that gives us information about their structure ...

We consider the problem of finding a saddle point for the convex-concave objective

\min_x \max_y f(x) + \langle Ax, y\rangle - g^*(y)

, where

f

is a convex function with locally Lipschitz gradient and

g

is convex and possibly non-smooth. We propose an ...

We study correlation functions involving generalized ANEC operators of the form integral dx-x-n+2T--x -> in four dimensions. We compute two, three, and ...

In part I, we address the issue of existence of solutions for Cauchy problems involving nonlinear hyperbolic equations for initial data in Sobolev spaces with scaling subcritical regularity. In particular, we analyse nonlinear estimates for null-forms in t ...

Fractional operators are widely used in mathematical models describing abnormal and nonlocal phenomena. Although there are extensive numerical methods for solving the corresponding model problems, theoretical analysis such as the regularity result, or the ...

Many scientific inquiries in natural sciences involve approximating a spherical field -namely a scalar quantity defined over a continuum of directions- from generalised samples of the latter (e.g. directional samples, local averages, etc). Such an approxim ...

We define and study in terms of integral Iwahoriâ Hecke algebras a new class of geometric operators acting on the Bruhat-Tits building of connected reductive groups over p-adic fields. These operators, which we call U-operators, generalize the geometric n ...

We study the Cauchy problem for the half Ginzburg- Landau-Kuramoto (hGLK) equation with the second order elliptic operator having rough coecients and potential type perturbation. The blow-up of solutions for hGLK equation with non-positive nonlinearity is ...

This article presents a geometric approach to some similarity problems involving metric arguments in the non-positively curved space of positive invertible operators of an operator algebra and the canonical isometric action by invertible elements on the co ...

In this thesis, we study two distinct problems. The first problem consists of studying the linear system of partial differential equations which consists of taking a k-form, and applying the exterior derivative 'd' to it and add the wedge product with a 1- ...

We study various aspects of stochastic partial differential equations driven by Lévy white noise. This driving noise, which is a generalization of Gaussian white noise, can be viewed either as a generalized random process or as an independently scattered r ...

Splines come in a variety of flavors that can be characterized in terms of some differential operator L. The simplest piecewise-constant model corresponds to the derivative operator. Likewise, one can extend the traditional notion of total variation by con ...

We use the averaged variational principle introduced in a recent article on graph spectra [10] to obtain upper bounds for sums of eigenvalues of several partial differential operators of interest in geometric analysis, which are analogues of Kroger's bound ...

Although our work lies in the field of random processes, this thesis was originally motivated by signal processing applications, mainly the stochastic modeling of sparse signals. We develop a mathematical study of the innovation model, under which a signal ...
