As a universal expression of human creativity, music is capable of conveying great subtlety and complexity. Crucially, this complexity is not encoded in the score or in the sounds, but is rather construed in the mind of the listener in the form of nuanced ...

Music can be interpreted by attributing syntactic relationships to sequential musical events, and, computationally, such musical interpretation represents an analogous combinatorial task to syntactic processing in language. While this perspective has been ...

We prove the special termination for log canonical pairs and its generalisation in the context of generalised pairs. ...

Context: Introducing Computer Science (CS) into formal education can be challenging, notably when considering the numerous stakeholders involved which include the students, teachers, schools, and policy makers. We believe these perspectives should be con ...

Extracting value and insights from increasingly heterogeneous data sources involves multiple systems combining and consuming the data. With multi-modal and context-rich data such as strings, text, videos, or images, the problem of standardizing the data mo ...

While theoretical and empirical insights suggest that the capacity to represent and process complex syntax is crucial in language as well as other domains, it is still unclear whether specific parsing mechanisms are also shared across domains. Focusing on ...

Taking root within a historical and transversal perspective of communities of artists at work, and of the relationship that they nourish with the places that host their creative activity, the present research intends to bring to light the grammars of "the ...

Fuzzers aware of the input grammar can explore deeper program states using grammar-aware mutations. Existing grammar-aware fuzzers are ineffective at synthesizing complex bug triggers due to: (i) grammars introducing a sampling bias during input generation ...

Parsing is the process that enables a computer system to make sense of raw data. Parsing is common to almost all computer systems: It is involved every time sequential data is read and elaborated into structured data. The theory of parsing usually focuses ...

This paper presents a generative approach for the conceptual design of structures, which aims at exploring alternative bar networks in static equilibrium by means of a grammar rule. Operating on incomplete networks of bars in interim static equilibrium, th ...

It is well known that hyperedge-replacement grammars can generate NP-complete graph languages even under seemingly harsh restrictions. This means that the parsing problem is difficult even in the non-uniform setting, in which the grammar is considered to b ...

In this paper, we present an efficient, functional, and formally verified parsing algorithm for LL(1) context-free expressions based on the concept of derivatives of formal languages. Parsing with derivatives is an elegant parsing technique, which, in the ...

Musical grammar describes a set of principles that are used to understand and interpret the structure of a piece according to a musical style. The main topic of this study is grammar induction for harmony --- the process of learning structural principles f ...

We propose the Recursive Non-autoregressive Graph-to-graph Transformer architecture (RNG-Tr) for the iterative refinement of arbitrary graphs through the recursive application of a non-autoregressive Graph-to-Graph Transformer and apply it to syntactic dep ...

Vision scientists have attempted to classify visual illusions according to certain aspects, such as brightness or spatial features. For example, Piaget proposed that visual illusion magnitudes either decrease or increase with age. Subsequently, it was sugg ...

The participation of societal actors has been advanced as the gold standard of sustainability assessment processes and is thought essential to dealing with the plurality of normative claims surrounding sustainability and the need to take decisions in a con ...

MLsub extends traditional Hindley-Milner type inference with subtyping while preserving compact principal types, an exciting new development. However, its specification in terms of biunification is difficult to understand, relying on the new concepts of bi ...

Program synthesis was first proposed a few decades ago, but in the last decade it has gained increased momentum in the research community. The increasing complexity of software has dictated the urgent need for improved supporting tools that verify the soft ...

Music is hierarchically structured, both in how it is perceived by listeners and how it is composed. Such structure can be elegantly captured using probabilistic grammatical models similar to those used to study natural language. They address the complexit ...

The spatial and formal conception of architecture, and thus its modes of design perception and representation, directly contributes to its machine-learnability; and consequently, its capacity in leveraging today's machine learning apparatus for design inno ...
