Thermally stimulated current (TSC) is a widely used technique to assess trap states and extract their density, energy, and capture rate using analytical expressions. In many cases, the latter are derived from physical models pertaining to inorganic semicon ...

The viable and safe application of wireless power transfer for powering bioelectronic implants requires understanding the wave propagation in heterogeneous and dispersive media, the electromagnetic exposure assessment, and the optimum design of the system ...

In this thesis, the electromagnetic wave propagation is studied in nonstationary-medium scenarios. The electromagnetic fields under material time-modulation are shown to conserve their momentum but not their energy. The mathematical foundations and analysi ...

Today, automatic control is integrated into a wide spectrum of real-world systems such as electrical grids and transportation networks. Many of these systems comprise numerous interconnected agents, perform safety-critical operations, or generate large amo ...

We discuss anomalies associated with outer automorphisms in gauge theories based on classical groups, namely charge conjugations for SU(N) and parities for SO(2r). We emphasize the inequivalence (yet related by a flavor transformation) between two versions ...

To overcome the multipath interference in locating transient electromagnetic (EM) radiation sources in an indoor environment, we propose a criterion that calculates the correlation between back-propagated signals from observation points, to be used in EM t ...

A specific family of spanwise-localised invariant solutions of plane Couette flow exhibits homoclinic snaking, a process by which spatially localised invariant solutions of a nonlinear partial differential equation smoothly grow additional structure at the ...

The localization of partial discharges (PD) is important to monitor the conditioning of high voltage insulator materials. One of the key components in power grids is the high power transformer. Localization of PDs in these pieces of equipment can increase ...

Adjustable robust minimization problems where the objective or constraints depend in a convex way on the adjustable variables are generally difficult to solve. In this paper, we reformulate the original adjustable robust nonlinear problem with a polyhedral ...

Convection in a layer inclined against gravity is a thermally driven non-equilibrium system, in which both buoyancy and shear forces drive spatio-temporally complex flows. As a function of the strength of thermal driving and the angle of inclination, a mul ...

A theoretical consideration of the so-called "membrane-in-the-middle" optomechanical cavity revealed that it undergoes a spontaneous symmetry breaking as a function of transparency of the membrane. Such typical features of this phenomenon as a square-root ...

Space-time (ST) wave packets, in which spatial and temporal characteristics are coupled, have gained attention due to their unique propagation characteristics, such as propagation invariance and tunable group velocity in addition to their potential ability ...

A family of effective equations for wave propagation in periodic media for arbitrary timescales O(epsilon-alpha), where epsilon MUCH LESS-THAN1 is the period of the tensor describing the medium, is proposed. The well-posedness of the effective equations of ...

Technical and industrial heritage artefacts are characterized by the presence of mechanisms. The possibility to activate, or reactivate, these mechanisms is an integral part of the cultural values of this kind of patrimony. The artefacts' functionality, ho ...

Parity-time symmetry plays an essential role for the formation of Dirac states in Dirac semimetals. So far, all of the experimentally identified topologically nontrivial Dirac semimetals (DSMs) possess both parity and time reversal symmetry. The realizatio ...

In the framework of Higgs inflation, we consider the electromagnetic field nonminimally coupled to gravity via the parity-preserving proportional to RF2 and parity-violating proportional to RF (F) over tilde terms. Using the perturbation theory to the lead ...

The paper describes a novel implementation of the piecewise linear interface-capturing volume-of-fluid method (PLIC-VOF) in axisymmetric cylindrical coordinates. The principal innovative feature involved in this work is that both the forward and inverse re ...

The output of physical systems, such as the scrambled pattern formed by shining the spot of a laser pointer through fog, is often easily accessible by direct measurements. However, selection of the input of such a system to obtain a desired output is diffi ...

Exotic self-interactions among the Standard Model neutrinos have been proposed as a potential reason behind the tension in the expansion rate, H-0, of the universe inferred from different observations. We constrain this proposal using electroweak precision ...

Symmetry and topology are fundamental properties of nature. Mathematics provides us with a general framework to understand these concepts. On one side, symmetry describes the invariance properties of an object for specific transformations. On the other sid ...
