The tension–tension fatigue behavior of pseudo-ductile hybrid bonded-bolted double lap basalt composite joints, composed of pseudo-ductile adhesives and adherends with multi-directional fiber architecture, was experimentally investigated. The fatigue damag ...

Bending-active elastica beam is a structural configuration that is based on the elastic deformation of an initially straight beam. This deformation occurs when horizontal displacements are applied to a sliding support, causing the beam to bend into an arch ...

This work introduces a new methodology to predict the fatigue life of viscoelastic materials by considering the creep effect on fatigue behavior under the concurrent effects of stress level, stress ratio, and temperature. The model established based on the ...

Ridesourcing has driven a lot of attention in recent years with the expansion of companies like Uber, Lift, and many others around the world. Companies use mobile applications connected through the internet to match drivers and their passengers real-time. ...

Microscopic traffic flow models can be distinguished in lane-based or lane-free depending on the degree of lane-discipline. This distinction holds true only if motorcycles are neglected in lane-based traffic. In cities, as opposed to highways, this is an o ...

The safety of existing bridges may be assessed using data from monitoring. The fatigue damage induced during observation period is extrapolated to the total service duration of a structure, and the reserve capacity is estimated. However, due to the randomn ...

Forecasting pedestrians' future motions is essential for autonomous driving systems to safely navigate in urban areas. However, existing prediction algorithms often overly rely on past observed trajectories and tend to fail around abrupt dynamic changes, s ...

Moving walkways are pedestrian dedicated hardware which generally decrease pedestrian travel time. We propose the utilization of these devices to dynamically control pedestrian flows in order to improve pedestrian dynamics. Three variations of a control st ...

Traffic congestion constitutes one of the most frequent, yet challenging, problems to address in the urban space. Caused by the concentration of population, whose mobility needs surpass the serving capacity of urban networks, congestion cannot be resolved ...

Signalized intersections are a fundamental part of urban networks. Their understanding is crucial to identify congestion patterns, queues, delays, and safety issues in local and network level. In this work, we analyze multimodal vehicle trajectories and pr ...

In the framework of the XFLEX HYDRO H2020 European Project, a 5 MW reversible Francis pump-turbine prototype, equipped with an industrial full size frequency converter, is investigated to demonstrate enhanced grid regulation capacities of variable speed hy ...

Pedestrians, like drivers, generally dislike congestion. This is true for most pedestrian environments: trains stations, airports, or shopping malls. Furthermore, pedestrian congestion also influences the attractiveness of public transportation networks. T ...

The examination of bridges under service loading is key for understanding their condition and thus for their sustainable and efficient use. The need to extend the service duration of existing bridges is increasing, and therefore, efficient tools for examin ...

Modeling urban traffic on the level of network is a wide research area oriented to the development of ITS. In this thesis properties of models based on MFD (Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram) are studied. The idea behind MFD is to say that the state of the t ...

Traffic control for large-scale urban road networks remains a challenging problem. Aggregated dynamical models of city-scale traffic, based on the macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD), enable development of model-based perimeter control methods. Involving ...

The objective of this thesis is to develop knowledge and methods to prevent fatigue failure of bridges. The Fatigue Limit State is investigated from both the demand (S) and resistance (R) side. The S-part focuses on reduction of uncertainties through monit ...

Deficit Round-Robin (DRR) is a widespread scheduling algorithm that provides fair queueing with variable-length packets. Bounds on worst-case delays obtained with DRR were found by Boyer et al. They used a rigorous network calculus approach and characteriz ...

Delamination in composite materials is often accompanied by fiber bridging that increases resistance to crack growth. Here, delamination of two unidirectional carbon/epoxy systems was studied under monotonic and displacement-controlled fatigue loading. One ...

Accurate prediction of travel time is an essential feature to support Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The non-linearity of traffic states, however, makes this prediction a challenging task. Here we propose to use dynamic linear models (DLMs) to a ...

The ability to predict pedestrian behaviour is crucial for road safety, traffic management systems, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and more broadly autonomous vehicles. We present a vision-based system that simultaneously locates where pedestri ...
