This toolkit has everything you need to perform imaging with a lensless camera. We make use of a low-cost implementation of DiffuserCam, namely replacing the lens with a piece of tape and using the Raspberry Pi HQ camera sensor. Similar principles and meth ...

In the framework of the new feed-in-tariff system in Switzerland for Small Hydropower Plants (SHP), the aim of the SmallFLEX project, led by HES-SO Valais and performed in collaboration with EPFL, WSL, EAWAG, PVE, and FMV, is to show how SHP can provide wi ...

For the design optimization of the Pelton turbine, it is highly demanded to investigate the flow inside the turbine casing, which includes the water jet from the nozzles, the interaction between the jet and rotating runner, and the flow ejected from the bu ...

In 1851 Léon Foucault created a sensation with his pendulum providing a direct demonstration of the turning of the Earth. This simple device consists of a pendulum which is launched in a purely planar orbit. Following Mach's principle of inertia, the mass ...

The Pelton turbine is an impulse turbine typically installed for high head hydroelectric power plants. For a site with a rated head H and discharge Q, a higher specific speed turbine results in a more compact generating unit with reduced manufacturing cost ...

Jet injection devices have been studied and developed for transdermal drug delivery to avoid the use of needles. Due to bulky actuation mechanisms, they are limited to body areas that are easy to reach such as skin. Here, we demonstrate a thin and long liq ...

We designed and engineered a dye production cassette encoding a heterologous pathway, including human tyrosine hydroxylase and Amanita muscaria 4,5-DOPA dioxygenase, for the biosynthesis of the betaxanthin family of plant and fungal pigments in mammalian c ...

A multi-camera hemispherical very wide field of view imaging apparatus with omnidirectional illumination capability comprises a cylindrical body (4, 4.a, 4.b), a hemispherical mechanical frame (2) arranged on one end of the cylindrical body (4, 4.a, 4.b), ...

The cameras are invented by imitating the human visual system to capture the scene. The camera technologies have been substantially advanced in recent years. 108 MP resolution with 100x hybrid zoom has become standard features for smartphone flagships. In ...

The present paper focuses on the simulation of the high-velocity impact of a projectile impacting on a water-jet, causing the onset, development and collapse of cavitation. The simulation of the fluid motion is carried out using an explicit, compressible, ...

Many phenomena of interest in nature and industry occur rapidly and are difficult and cost-prohibitive to visualize properly without specialized cameras. Here we describe in detail the virtual frame technique (VFT), a simple, useful, and accessible mode of ...

A recently proposed navigation methodology for aerial platforms based on the vehicle dynamic model (VDM) has shown promising results in terms of navigation autonomy. Its practical realization requires that control inputs are related to the same absolute ti ...

Numerical investigation of the unsteady flow patterns around the bucket can be helpful to improve the Pelton turbine efficiency. In fact, by studying the loss mechanisms in the flow, one can optimize the bucket design. For this purpose, an accurate investi ...

Among hydrodynamically unstable flows, the amplifier-flows are characterized by their large amplification potential in presence of external noise. Since amplifiers do not have an intrinsic dynamics, a chosen forcing can be applied to eventually control the ...

Estimating the metric height of a person from monocular imagery without additional assumptions is ill-posed. Existing solutions either require manual calibration of ground plane and camera geometry, special cameras, or reference objects of known size. We f ...

The numerical investigation of the unsteady flow patterns around a Pelton bucket can be helpful to improve the overall turbine efficiency by optimizing the bucket design based on identified loss mechanisms. Since the flow is highly turbulent, modeling the ...

The characterization of solid oxide cells (SOCs) relies mainly on direct-current (DC) and alternating-current (AC) methods that provide only average surface electro-chemical responses. As such, the spatial distribution is not well captured and the complexi ...

Recently stakeholders in the area of multimedia representation and transmission have been looking at plenoptic technologies to improve immersive experience. Among these technologies, point clouds denote a volumetric information representation format with i ...

A method for generating a three-dimensional patterned soft structure, including the steps of providing a soft supporting substrate, providing a drop-on-demand system with a device for varying the velocity of the jetted droplets, providing a liquid ink, jet ...

Advances in camera sensor technology and its manufacturing process now allow high quality image acquisition with low-cost devices. Moreover, the latest significant increase in computational capacity of the processing units enables incorporation of more com ...
