Let K be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, and let G be a connected reductive algebraic group over K. We address the problem of classifying triples (G, H, V ), where H is a proper connected subgroup of G, and V is a finitedimensional ir ...

Historically speaking, the notion of the type was reintroduced to the larger architectural discourse as a direct consequence of the crisis of the Modern. The task of revisiting the forms of the past also dictated the return of architectural methods that ha ...

In this thesis, we investigate the inverse problem of trees and barcodes from a combinatorial, geometric, probabilistic and statistical point of view. Computing the persistent homology of a merge tree yields a barcode B. Reconstructing a tree from B invol ...

PUS3 encodes the pseudouridylate synthase 3, an enzyme catalyzing the formation of tRNA pseudouridine, which plays a critical role in tRNA structure, function, and stability. Biallelic pathogenic variants of PUS3 have been previously associated with severe ...

We prove an identity relating the permanent of a rank 2 matrix and the determinants of its Hadamard powers. When viewed in the right way, the resulting formula looks strikingly similar to an identity of Carlitz and Levine, suggesting the possibility that t ...

The input of almost every machine learning algorithm targeting the properties of matter at the atomic scale involves a transformation of the list of Cartesian atomic coordinates into a more symmetric representation. Many of the most popular representations ...

LaFeO3 (LFO) is recognized as a candidate material for solar water oxidation, but its photoelectrochemical response remains modest and stagnant. With the aim of advancing LFO photoanodes for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), here, a nanorod array-type e ...

Background: The increasingly common applications of machine-learning schemes to atomic-scale simulations have triggered efforts to better understand the mathematical properties of the mapping between the Cartesian coordinates of the atoms and the variety o ...

Methods of topological data analysis have been successfully applied in a wide range of fields to provide useful summaries of the structure of complex data sets in terms of topological descriptors, such as persistence diagrams. While there are many powerful ...

We consider two problems regarding arithmetic progressions in symmetric sets in the finite field (product space) model. ...

Motivated by the recent generalization of the Haldane conjecture to SU(3) chains [Lajko et al., Nucl. Phys. B924, 508 (2017)] according to which a Haldane gap should be present for symmetric representations if the number of boxes in the Young diagram is a ...

Recently, SU(3) chains in the symmetric and self-conjugate representations have been studied using field theory techniques. For certain representations, namely rank-psymmetric ones with pnot a multiple of 3, it was argued that the ground state exhibits gap ...

We develop a scheme for finite-size corrections of vertical transition energies and single-particle energy levels involving defect states with built-in ionic polarization in supercell calculations. The method accounts on an equal footing for the screening ...

Delamination is a well-known damage mode exhibited by laminated composites which has been extensively studied in unidirectional laminates (UD). In this work, a novel strategy consisting of the introduction of a small interlaminar defect to enhance the frac ...

The growth of compound semiconductors on silicon has been widely sought after for decades, but reliable methods for defect-free combination of these materials have remained elusive. Recently, interconnected GaAs nanoscale membranes have been used as templa ...

A central paradigm of self-assembly is to create ordered structures starting from molecular monomers that spontaneously recognize and interact with each other via noncovalent interactions. In recent years, great efforts have been directed toward perfecting ...

Brightness has different meaning in different contexts and some of these are reviewed. The scientific definition of brightness does not represent our perception. The current definition is that from the IUPAC Gold Book and is mainly restricted to solutions. ...

To assess the effect of an 8-oxoguanine (8OG) defect base on the vertical ionization energies (VIEs) and electron affinities (VEAs) of DNA, density functional theory calculations were carried out for native and defect DNA bases and nucleotides, as well as ...

Cathodoluminescence (CL) and micro-photoluminescence spectroscopies are employed to investigate effects of structural defects on carrier recombination in GaNAsP nanowires (NWs) grown by molecular beam epitaxy on Si substrates. In the NWs with a low N conte ...

We study the kinematics of correlation functions of local and extended operators in a conformal field theory. We present a new method for constructing the tensor structures associated to primary operators in an arbitrary bosonic representation of the Loren ...
