For several decades - and still today - mobility policies in industrialised countries have sought to reduce travel time to meet the expectations of infrastructure users for speed. However, despite major investments to achieve this objective of improving ac ...

In ride-sharing, commuters with similar itineraries share a vehicle for their trip. Despite its clear benefits in terms of reduced congestion, ride-sharing is not yet widely accepted. We propose a specific ride-sharing variant, where drivers are completely ...

The surge of Mobility on Demand (MoD) is largely attributed to advancements in mobile internet and technology. Ridesourcing platforms, among other solution services, offer convenience and flexibility when it comes to pick-up/drop-off time and location, all ...

Traffic congestion constitutes one of the most frequent, yet challenging, problems to address in the urban space. Caused by the concentration of population, whose mobility needs surpass the serving capacity of urban networks, congestion cannot be resolved ...

Accurate prediction of travel time is an essential feature to support Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The non-linearity of traffic states, however, makes this prediction a challenging task. Here we propose to use dynamic linear models (DLMs) to a ...

This paper proposes an integrated methodological framework to design a spatially heterogeneous bus route network and time-dependent service headways to serve travel demand that varies over time and space. Travelers choose to use either the transit mode or ...

Equity issues among travellers are critical in congestion pricing. Failure to treat equity can lead to low acceptability towards pricing. In this paper, we develop congestion pricing schemes to improve both equity and traffic performance, for multimodal ne ...

Buses operating in mixed traffic experience problems with delay and travel time variability in peak periods. Numerous transit priority measures are found in the literature but most rely on separating buses from other vehicles. Complete separation such as d ...

Network travel time reliability can be represented by a relationship between network space-mean travel time and the standard deviation of network travel time. The primary objective of this paper is to improve estimation of the network travel time reliabili ...

Road space distribution among multiple modes of transport in urban networks has attracted the interest of several researchers and policy planners. Traditionally, these problems are solved by ignoring operational and dynamic characteristics of multi-modal c ...

Collective transport has been seen for long as a proper solution to fight congestion. While collectivity has been successful with respect to subways, it is not the norm in road traffic. Dedicated Bus Lanes (DBL) have been proposed as a measure to reduce th ...

When drivers are regularly faced with congestion, they try to optimize their departure time. If the demand and the road network evolve slowly enough, the entire system may approach an equilibrium, i.e. a state such that no one can be better off by unilater ...

As traffic congestion becomes a huge problem for most developing and developed countries across the world, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are becoming a hot topic that is attracting attention of researchers and the general public alike. In this p ...

This paper proposes a real-time decentralized control algorithm in multi-area active distribution network relying only on dispersed Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs). In particular, we propose a zonal control strategy targeting voltage support and lin ...

Pollution, congestion and urbanistic considerations are leading to a change in the use of private vehicles in dense city centers. More frequently, the last-mile is covered with systems such as public transport, car sharing and bike sharing as well as an in ...

The problem of clustering in urban traffic networks has been mainly studied in static framework by only considering traffic conditions at a given time. Nevertheless, it is important to underline here that traffic is a strongly time-variant process and it n ...

Emerging sensing technologies such as probe vehicles equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) devices on board provide us real-time vehicle trajectories. They are helpful for the understanding of the cases that are significant but difficult to observe ...

In this paper, we investigate an area-based pricing scheme for congested multimodal urban networks with the consideration of user heterogeneity. We propose a time-dependent pricing scheme where the tolls are iteratively adjusted through a Proportional-Inte ...

We present a new approach for modeling and analyzing route choice behavior. It is motivated by the need to reduce the complexity of the state-of-the-art choice models. It is inspired by the simplifications done by the travelers, using representations of th ...
