Sensing and imaging of light in the shortwave infrared (SWIR) range is increasingly used in various fields, including bio-imaging, remote sensing, and semiconductor process control. SWIR-sensitive organic photodetectors (OPDs) are promising because organic ...

The work described in this thesis focuses on two classes of luminophores: tetraarylethene-based polymers and Ir(III) complexes with orthometalated ligands. Tetraarylethene-based polymers show aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and they are of interest for ...

Over the past decade, quantum photonics platforms aiming at harnessing the fundamental properties of single particles, such as quantum superposition and quantum entanglement, have flourished. In this context, single-photon emitters capable of operating at ...

The combination of palladium salts and bipyridyl ligands can lead to the formation of a large variety of coordination complexes, with different shapes and sizes, displaying a very versatile host-guest chemistry. Increasing their structural complexity remai ...

Molecules with inversion of the singlet and triplet excited-state energies are highly promising for the development of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). To date, azaphenalenes are the only class of molecules where these inversions have been identified ...

Polymeric semiconductors have gained significant attention in the field of organic electronics due to their unique properties and potential applications. Through their ability to transport charge carriers and to absorb or emit light, they have attracted mu ...

Near-infrared luminescent materials have recently received considerable attention for a large number of applications, including in solid-state lighting, as bioimaging agents, as photovoltaic cells, and in the telecommunication industry. By adding diverse e ...

The isomerization of iridium(III) complexes with metalated N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands was studied. The fac isomers of complexes with 1-phenyl-3-methylbenzimidazolin-2-ylidene or 1-phenyl-3-benzylbenzimidazolin-2-ylidene ligands are transformed cl ...

Singlet fission (SF) is a multiexciton-generating process whereby an excited state singlet (S1) is converted into two lower-energy triplets (T1). The inclusion of a SF-capable material into a photovoltaic device offers the potential for the absorption of p ...

Molecules where the first excited singlet state is lower in energy than the first excited triplet state have the potential to revolutionize OLEDs. This inverted singlet-triplet gap violates Hund's rule and currently there are only a few molecules which are ...

Organic upconversion devices (OUCs) consist of an organic infrared photodetector and an organic visible light-emitting diode (OLED), connected in series. OUCs convert photons from the infrared to the visible and are of use in applications such as process c ...

Over the past decade, lead halide perovskites (LHPs) have received considerable attention thanks to their impressive optoelectronic properties. Today, LHP-based devices are one of the most efficient single-junction solar cells, with power-conversion effici ...

Hot exciton materials have the potential to improve the quantum efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) by promoting high reversed intersystem crossing (hRISC) between a high-lying triplet (T-n, n >= 2) and a radiative singlet (S-m). In recent ...

This thesis investigates novel single-molecule luminescence phenomena at their inherent, sub-molecular length scale. The microscopic understanding of luminescence processes will be crucial for the continued improvement of organic optoelectronic and semicon ...

Semiconducting polymers are being studied intensively for optoelectronic device applications, including solution-processed light-emitting diodes (PLEDs). Charge traps in polymers limit the charge transport and thus the PLED efficiency. It is firmly establi ...

The color-tuning strategies of solid-state light-emitting devices (ss-LEDs) are mainly focused on engineering molecular structures. In this paper, for the first time, we developed a facile strategy for tuning the electroluminescence (EL) color from orange ...

We have witnessed a wide range of theoretical as well as experimental investigations to envisage external stimuli induced changes in electronic, optical and magnetic properties in the metal organiccomplexes, while hybrid perovskites have recently joined th ...

Despite recent advances in the field of cyclic alkyl amino carbenes (CAACs) including a few complementary synthetic strategies affording CAACs with various substitution patterns, the application potential of chiral CAACs to efficiently catalyze asymmetric ...

III-N light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) are subject of intense investigations, thanks to their high efficiency and great reliability. The quality of the semiconductor material has a significant impact on the electro-optical performance of LEDs: for this reason, ...
