Numerous conductor designs for pulsed magnets based on High Temperature Superconductors (HTS), featuring stacks of tapes are currently being proposed. A major contribution to the AC losses is expected to be given by hysteresis losses. Several numerical mod ...

Phonon anharmonicity plays a crucial role in determining the stability and vibrational properties of high-pressure hydrides. Furthermore, strong anharmonicity can render phonon quasiparticle picture obsolete questioning standard approaches for modeling sup ...

We report measurements of the in-plane thermoelectric power (TEP) for an overdoped (OD) crystal of the single layer cuprate superconductor Tl2Ba2CuO6+x (Tl2201) at several hole concentrations (p), from 300 or 400 K to below the superconducting transition t ...

In the past decades, a significant increase of the transistor density on a chip has led to exponential growth in computational power driven by Moore's law. To overcome the bottleneck of traditional von-Neumann architecture in computational efficiency, effo ...

The need of full transposition of the current carrying elements (strands) in large cables is frequently retained as top design criterion for conductors operating in pulsed mode. However, when the transposition error, i.e., the inductance difference among t ...

The magnet feeders are part of the critical systems of a fusion reactor since they represent the interface between the in-cryostat components at 4.5 K and the room-temperature cryogenic plant and power supply. The European DEMO tokamak foresees 16 toroidal ...

High-temperature superconductors (HTSs) enable exclusive operating conditions for fusion magnets, boosting their performance up to 20 T generated magnetic fields in the temperature range from 4 K to 20 K. One of the main technological issues of HTS conduct ...

The discovery of unconventional superconductivity in a broad class of iron-based materials invoked extensive research on the corresponding compounds of other transition metals. For instance, BaNi2P2 exhibits a superconducting transition with a critical tem ...

The European Roadmap to Fusion Electricity (Federici et al., 2018) [1] details the path to complete within the next three decades the DEMOnstration power plant, DEMO, aiming to a net gain of Energy Q=40. The 2018 DEMO baseline considers a 2 GW tokamak devi ...

Low-temperature variable-energy electron irradiation was used to induce non-magnetic disorder in a single crystal of a hole-doped iron-based superconductor, Ba1-xKxFe2As2, x = 0.80. To avoid systematic errors, the beam energy was adjusted non-consequently ...

Superconducting materials present unique properties, which make a potential technological platform based on superconductors extremely appealing for a wide set of applications, both classical and not. Among these classes of materials, high-kinetic inductanc ...

Scientific progress and technological advancements on novel materials are often deterred by limitations on size and quality of samples. Materials with electronic phenomena attractive for applications, and presenting many open scientific questions, are ofte ...

A major upgrade of the European DIPOle (EDIPO) test facility, which will allow the testing of superconducting samples both for fusion and for high-energy physics applications, is taking place at the Swiss Plasma Center. With a target background field of 15 ...

Several conductor designs featuring High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) stacked tapes for fusion coils are being proposed. These conductors are planned to operate in time-varying magnetic field and current; thus, the estimation of AC losses is fundament ...

This data set contains the data collected during the FNS project Green Piezo (Grant no. 179064) in association with the recent publication entitled “Low-temperature processing of screen-printed piezoelectric KNbO3 with integration onto biodegradable paper ...

The objective of this thesis is the development of high-field and high-current joints between Nb3Sn cables for superconducting coils. The main fields of application are high energy physics (HEP) and thermonuclear fusion. In this thesis, the focus is on Win ...

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the mechanical and thermal behaviour of HTS coated conductor cables for EUROfusion DEMO magnets. One of the issue in large HTS magnets is the safety against a quench. A quench is a sudden thermal runway in which the ...

Local defects in the manufacturing of high temperature superconducting cable-in-conduit conductors are known to be present at different stages of the conductor production. The impact of such defects on the performance of one module of the hybrid option of ...

High temperature superconducting (HTS) materials are widely utilized in various design proposals for fusion magnets, resulting in enhanced performance of the machines compared to the past. However, a reliable quench detection in HTS conductors remains an o ...

We present the pre-concept design of the European DEMO Magnet System, which has successfully passed the DEMO plant-level gate review in 2020. The main design input parameters originate from the so-called DEMO 2018 baseline, which was produced using the PRO ...
