This thesis presents the development, construction, and benchmark of an experimental platform that combines cold fermionic 6Li atoms with locally controllable light-matter interactions. To enable local control, a new device, the cavity-microscope, was crea ...

In this thesis, we discuss the problems of scattering and optical manipulation related to nanosystems of different complexities. The multipolar decomposition method is used to represent scattering processes in nanosystems as a series of elementary excitati ...

We report on the commissioning results of the cold neutron multiplexing secondary spectrometer CAMEA (Continuous Angle Multi -Energy Analysis) at the Swiss Spallation Neutron Source at the Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland. CAMEA is optimized for efficie ...

In this thesis, we mainly utilize silver to construct the meta-atoms. Although suffering from easily oxidized, its excellent lossless property throughout the visible range makes it suitable for study. When preserved properly, silver-made metasurfaces can s ...

Thermal motion of a room-temperature mechanical resonator typically dominates the quantum backaction of its position measurement. This is a longstanding barrier for exploring cavity optomechanics at room temperature. In order to enter the quantum regime of ...

Structured light generation having broad applications in different optical fields, is the topic of this thesis. Our structured light generation strategy is based on applying periodic microoptical elements at the refraction-diffraction limit, under a focuse ...

Recent years have seen spectacular developments in the domain of nano-optics. Alongside the well-known techniques of super-resolution microscopy progress in nanofabrication has enabled important improvements in the fields of optical imaging and spectros ...

Zirconium pentatetelluride, ZrTe5, shows remarkable sensitivity to hydrostatic pressure. In this work we address the high-pressure transport and optical properties of this compound, on samples grown by flux and chemical vapor transport. The high-pressure r ...

The present paper reports on an experimental investigation of the structural, electrical and optical properties of Ru rich Ru1-xTixO2 thin films. Rutile single-phaseRu(1-x)Ti(x)O(2) thin films have been deposited by reactive hybrid High-power impulse magne ...

Thermal scanning probe lithography (t-SPL) is an advanced lithography technique in which a heated atomic force microscope tip locally modifies a sample material. Due to the nanometer-sized tip apex diameter, t-SPL enables patterning of sub-10 nm structures ...

Bloch surface waves (BSWs) are surface electromagnetic modes that propagate at the interface between a multilayer substrate and a homogeneous external medium. The optical field of the surface mode is confined near the surface of the multilayer. This vertic ...

When an optical field is reflected from a compliant mirror, its intensity and phase become quantum-correlated due to radiation pressure. These correlations form a valuable resource: the mirror may be viewed as an effective Kerr medium generating squeezed s ...

Radiative heat transfer is analyzed in participating media consisting of long cylindrical fibers with a diameter in the limit of geometrical optics. The absorption and scattering coefficients and the scattering phase function of the medium are determined b ...

Owing to the advantages of the optical fibre, such as lightweight, small size, low cost and immunity to electromagnetic interferences, the fibre sensors have been applied in diverse fields and the scientific research on fibre sensing keeps improving to mee ...

The generation of a quantum fluid of dressed photons at room temperature is experimentally demonstrated in an InGaN microcavity which is divided into two-and one-dimensional sections, resulting in single- and switchable multilevel coherent light emission. ...

This thesis presents results of a research on applications of Brillouin dynamic gratings - distributed reflectors that can be dynamically created in an optical fibre by two optical waves. A basic theory of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is introduce ...

The tuning of the optical and electronic properties of semiconductor nanowires can be achieved by crystal phase engineering. Zinc-blende and diamond semiconductors exhibit pressure-induced structural transitions as well as a strong pressure dependence of t ...

This thesis introduces a novel approach for in vivo separation and quantification of spatio-temporal dynamics of optical coefficients (absorption, scattering), oxygen saturation (SO2) and haemoglobin concentrations within rat brain somatosensory cortex und ...

The surface integral formulation is a flexible, multiscale and accurate tool to simulate light scattering on nanostructures. Its generalization to periodic arrays is introduced in this paper. The general electromagnetic scattering problem is reduced to a d ...

The physical-chemical properties of polymer films can be modified by embedding inorganic materials (e. g. inorganic nanoparticles) into the polymer matrix. Depending both on the material properties (e. g. nanoparticles concentration) and on the fabrication ...
