Wind farms interact with the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and are influenced by various atmospheric conditions such as wind direction, speed, surface-layer stability, free-atmosphere stratification, turbulence intensity, and surface properties. Previous studies often focus on individual factors or limited stability conditions. Addressing these effects during wind farm design and operation helps improve wake control strategies, optimize layouts, and yield more accurate power estimates and load calculations. This study uses large-eddy simulations (LES) of a finite-size wind farm to investigate the combined effects of surface-layer and free-atmosphere stratification on flow dynamics and power performance. Surface-layer stability is varied from strongly stable to strongly unstable, with two levels of free-atmosphere stratification: weak (1 K/km) and strong (10 K/km). The findings highlight the critical role of stability in modulating wind farm wake characteristics, turbulence intensity (TI), and boundary layer height (BLH), impacting wind farm efficiency and downstream wake interactions.
