Retinoblastoma, while relatively rare, stands as the most prevalent intraocular cancer. In Switzerland, the survival rate approaches 100%, but it drops to less than 50% in low-income countries. The current treatment options for retinoblastoma rely on a lim ...

Retinoblastoma is the most common pediatric eye cancer. It is currently treated with a limited number of drugs, adapted from other pediatric cancer treatments. Drug toxicity and relapse of the disease warrant new therapeutic strategies for these young pati ...

Visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) is recommended by theWorld Health Organization for primary cervical cancer screening or triage of human papillomavirus-positive women living in low-resource settings. Nonetheless, traditional VIA with the naked-eye ...

By taking a journey through the events that happened during Professor David A. Evans' lifetime in the context of chemical synthesis and drug discovery, this in-focus article reflects upon Professor Evans' lifelong scientific and padegogical impacts on the ...

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally. Immunotherapy represents one of the most promising cancer treatments inducing complete and durable responses in a fraction of cancer patients. Despite the unprecedented clinical success achieved by T c ...

The usefulness of percent volume buried (%V-bur) as a readily quantifiable property is investigated with regard to Cu(NN)(PP) complexes of interest for lighting purposes. Photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) and single crystal X-ray structures of ...

Cancers induced by human papillomaviruses (HPV) should be responsive to immunotherapy by virtue of expressing the immunogenic oncoproteins E6/E7. However, advanced forms of cervical cancer, driven by HPV, are poorly responsive to immune response-enhancing ...

Electrochemical biosensors are promoting point-of-care and wearable instrumentation due to their high versatility in measuring human metabolites. There is a considerable number of biological compounds that can be detected and measured through voltammetry b ...

The creation of new chiral ligands capable of providing high stereocontrol in metal-catalyzed reactions is crucial in modern organic synthesis. The production of bioactive molecules as single enantiomers is increasingly required, and asymmetric catalysis w ...

High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) are responsible for genital and oral cancers associated with the expression of the E6/E7 HPV oncogenes. Therapeutic vaccines targeting those oncogenes can only partially control tumor progression, highlighting the neces ...

Neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapies provide survival benefits to breast cancer patients, in particular in estrogen receptor negative (ER-) cancers, by reducing rates of recurrences. It is assumed that the benefits of (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy are due ...

For clinical applications, simplicity, high efficiency, and low toxicity are key issues in the design of anti-tumor drugs. In this work, a novel dual-responsive drug self-framed delivery system (DSFDS) with high drug delivery efficiency is proposed based o ...

The management of advanced ovarian cancer is challenging due to the high frequency of recurrence, often associated with the development of resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. Molecular analyses revealed the complexity of ovarian cancer with particul ...

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most frequent neoplastic disorder and is a main cause of tumor-related mortality, as many patients progress to stage IV metastatic CRC. Standard care consists of combination chemotherapy (FOLFIRI or FOLFOX). Patients wi ...

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-associated deaths worldwide. Platinum-based chemotherapy is the most common therapeutic approach in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly for tumors that carry non-druggable activating mutation ...

Human Papilloma Viruses (HPVs) are the most common sexually transmitted agents worldwide, and chronic infection with oncogenic HPVs can lead to the development of lesions in the cervix, the vulva, and the head and neck region. In some patients, these lesio ...

Treatment of patients bearing human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cancers with synthetic long-peptide (SLP) therapeutic vaccines has shown promising results in clinical trials against premalignant lesions, whereas responses against later stage carcinomas ha ...

Advances in treatment strategies together with an earlier diagnosis have considerably increased the average survival of cancer patients over the last four decades. Nevertheless, despite the growing number of new antineoplastic agents introduced each year, ...

Polymer nanomedicine is an attractive approach for the delivery of anticancer drugs. Firstly designed to increase drug bioavailability, polymer conjugates and polymer nanoparticles have rapidly emerged in the field of cancer therapy after the discovery of ...

Metal based anti-cancer drugs (metallodrugs) such as cisplatin are a cornerstone of cancer chemotherapy. However, development of this class of compound has been hindered by our lack of understanding of how they function. This is mainly because existing met ...
