Patella-related complications after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) remain a major clinical concern. Previous studies have suggested that increased postoperative patellar bone strain could be related to such complications, but there is limited knowledge on p ...

The invention relates to a hand exoskeleton device having a modular nature. The device is designed to be wearable, portable and light in weight, and comprises from one to ten modules each having an actuating mechanism such as a linear actuator coupled with ...

Over the last decade, active lower-limb prostheses demonstrated their ability to restore a physiological gait for transfemoral amputees by supplying the required positive energy balance during daily life locomotion activities. However, the added-value of s ...

We present a simple open-loop method to increase the response speed and suppress the viscoelastic creep of dielectric elastomer actuators. The parameters of the model can be extracted from two simple measurements: a strain vs. voltage ramp, and the strain ...

Knee implant loosening is mainly caused by the weakness of the prosthesis-bone interface and is the main reason for surgical revisions. However, pre-operative diagnosis is difficult due to lack of accurate tests. In this study, we developed a vibration-bas ...

Roentgen stereophotogrammetry analysis technique allows an accurate measurement of knee joint prosthesis position and orientation using two X-ray images. Although this technique is used generally during static procedure, it is possible to use it with a bip ...

Biocompatibility is one of the biggest challenges for biomaterials development. This issue arises in the case of coatings. Calcium phosphate (CP) coatings are currently used to cover femoral stem implants, while calcium titanate (CT) has also been proposed ...

Hand amputation could dramatically degrade the life quality of amputees. Many amputees use prostheses to restore part of the hand functions. Myoelectric prosthesis provides the most dexterous control. However, they are facing high rejection rate. One of th ...

Total hip joint arthroplasty is a medical procedure to replace a natural failed joint by an artificial joint to improve the quality of life of the patient. In spite of its broad success, there is a concern about the relation between the presence of modular ...

This study compared the outcome of total knee replacement (TKR) in adult patients with fixed- and mobile-bearing prostheses during the first post-operative year and at five years' follow-up, using gait parameters as a new objective measure. This double-bli ...
