Poor indoor air quality has been associated with health issues and decreased work performance. Personal exposure that takes place both in outdoor and indoor environments is the result of dy-namic processes and complex interactions between people and surrou ...

Stepped spillways are frequently limited to specific discharges under around 30 m2/s due to concerns about potential cavitation damages. A small air concentration can prevent such damages and the design of bottom aerators is well established for smooth chu ...

In the past few years, waste management has received increasing attention not only from industry but also from academics. With an increase in plastic content, motivated by China’s ban on its import, waste composition is expected to change in the near futur ...

Human activities can disturb the natural dynamics of exchanges between surface water and groundwater in rivers. Such exchanges contribute to the self-purification of the environment and an excess of infiltration can lead to contamination of groundwater. In ...

The worldwide increasing energy consumption is mainly based on fossil fuel which leads to a large number of environmental problems. Indeed, the combustion of fossil fuels releases into the atmosphere different greenhouse gases and harmful pollutants which ...

Ozonation and subsequent post-treatments are increasingly implemented in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) for enhanced micropollutant abatement. While this technology is effective, micro pollutant oxidation leads to the formation of ozonation transforma ...

To protect spillways against cavitation damage, adding a small air concentration to the flow close to the invert is efficient. Aerator performance on smooth chutes was therefore well studied in terms of air entrainment and downstream air concentration deve ...

Systematic physical model tests are performed on a stepped spillway equipped with a bottom aerator at the beginning of the stepped part. A deflector is used to issue a jet in order to initiate air entrainment into the flow. A horizontal slot located in the ...

This paper is aimed at developing optimal motion planning for a single autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) equipped with an on-board pollutant sensor that will maximize the sensor-related information available for source seeking. The ASV uses a nonlinear diff ...

The potential of laccase-mediator systems (LMS) for the removal and detoxification of two wastewater micropollutants, the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and the herbicide isoproturon (IPN), was assessed. The influence of various parameters on micropollu ...

The nonaerated region may occupy a large portion of the skimming flow in steep, stepped spillways, particularly for relatively high unit flow rates. In spite of the numerous contributions on the hydraulic properties at both the inception point of air entra ...

Aerobic granular sludge (AGS) in sequencing batch reactors (SBR) has recently made its proofs as full-scale technology for the biological treatment of urban wastewater. In contrast to conventional flocculent activated sludge, microorganisms aggregate to de ...

This work deals with the ultrasonic degradation (800 kHz) of crystal violet (CV) under different experimental conditions. The effects of saturating gas (argon, carbon dioxide and air), CV concentration (2.45-1225 mu mol L-1), pH (3-9) and power (20-80 W) w ...

Growing population, consuming a large amount of energy such as combustion of fossil fuel, increasing pollutant emissions in the atmosphere are the threats to the sustainable development of our planet in general, and of the air quality in particular. Accord ...
