The physical properties of many modern multi-component materials are determined by their internal microstructure. Tools capable of characterizing complex nanoscale architectures in composite materials are, therefore, essential to design materials with targ ...

Among the two materials families used in nanophotonics, the fundamental mode for metal nanostructures is electric, while that for dielectric nanostructures is magnetic. Consequently, the optical properties of hybrid dimers that incorporate both materials h ...

Dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (dDNP) is a powerful technique that enhances the magnetic resonance signal of nuclear spins by several orders of magnitude. DNP relies on the principle of cross-relaxation by electron spins driven out of equilibrium ...

Conventional proton MRS has been successfully utilized to noninvasively assess tissue biochemistry in conditions that result in large changes in metabolite levels. For more challenging applications, namely, in conditions which result in subtle metabolite c ...

Despite extensive advances in the field of molecular recognition, the real-time monitoring of small molecule binding to nanoparticles (NP) remains a challenge. To this end, we report on a versatile approach, based on quartz crystal microbalance with dissip ...

The structure of crystalline nanoparticles (CNPs) is determined using dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) enhanced NMR spectroscopy experiments. The CNPs are composed of a crystalline core containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient (compound P), coated ...

The complex organizations of amino acid residues on protein surfaces give rise to a wide space of functions for proteins. Great efforts are devoted in biology to understand such structure-property relationships. Many advanced characterization techniques ha ...

Gold nanoparticles owe a large number of their properties to their ligand shell. Indeed, many researchers routinely use mixtures of ligand molecules for their nanoparticles to impart complex property sets. It has been shown that the morphology of ligand sh ...

The site-specific surface modification of colloidal substrates, yielding "patchy" nanoparticles, is a rapidly expanding area of research as a result of the new complex structural hierarchies that are becoming accessible to chemists and materials scientists ...

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is one of the most versatile techniques since it enables the characterization of solid, liquid and gaseous systems in a plethora of in-vitro and in-vivo experiments. Despite its multidisciplinary scope, it still suffers fro ...

Substantial signal enhancements achieved by using parahydrogen in catalytic hydrogenations are powerful tools for mechanistic studies of chemical reactions involving molecular H-2. Potentially, this technique can be extended to other reaction classes, prov ...

Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) has rapidly become a mature spectroscopic technique. In particular, taking advantage of an improved energy resolution, a series of experiments performed over the past 5 years have established soft X-ray RIXS as a ...

Magnetite nanoparticles with a size of 5-6 nm with potential impact on biomedicine and information/communication technologies were synthesized by thermal decomposition of Fe(acac)(3) and subsequently coated with a silica shell exploiting a water-in-oil syn ...

We show that dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) can be used to enhance NMR signals of C-13 and Si-29 nuclei located in mesoporous organic/inorganic hybrid materials, at several hundreds of nanometers from stable radicals (TOTAPOL) trapped in the surroundin ...

his thesis reports on the magnetic properties of bi- and tri-metallic nanostructures at surfaces. The main goal is to build the smallest nanostructure ferromagnetic at room temperature and the assembly of those structures in high density arrays. To this pu ...

The lanthanide(III) complexes formed with the tri- and tetraacetate derivatives of bis(aminomethyl)phosphinic acid, L1 and L2, respectively, have been studied by pH potentiometry, spectrophotometry and 1H and 17O NMR spectroscopy. L1 forms [Ln(L1)], [Ln(L1 ...

It is accepted that the ligand shell morphology of nanoparticles coated with a monolayer of molecules can be partly responsible for important properties such as cell membrane penetration and wetting. When binary mixtures of molecules coat a nanoparticle, t ...

Slow dynamic processes, such as biomolecular folding/unfolding, macromolecular diffusion, etc., can be conveniently monitored by solution-state two-dimensional (2D) NMR spectroscopy, provided the inverse of their rate constants does not exceed the nuclear ...

In this work, we study how to use a plasmonic dipole antenna as a multifunctional nanodevice for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) -based sensing and optical trapping. An analytical model is implemented ...

A series of salts composed of the coordinatively unsatd. areneruthenium β-diketiminato cation and different anions, [(η6-C6H6)Ru(ArN:CMeCHCMe:NAr)][X] (1-4; Ar = 2,6-dimethylphenyl; X = OTf-, BF4-, PF6-, BPh4-) and [(η6-C6H6)Ru(ArN:CMeCHCMe:NAr)][BArF4] [5 ...
