The presence of impurity ions in magnetically confined plasmas can significantly influence micro-instabilities, impacting cross-field transport and ultimately affecting fusion performance. In particular, Parallel Velocity Gradient (PVG) instability, common ...

In the context of global gyrokinetic simulations of turbulence using a particle-in-cell framework, verifying the delta-f assumption with a fixed background distribution becomes challenging when determining quasi-steady state profiles corresponding to given ...

The European DEMO (EU-DEMO) reactor studies within EUROfusion aim to develop a fusion power plant concept. The large tokamak device needs an auxiliary heating power which, at the present stage, is provided by the Electron Cyclotron (EC) heating system with ...

The excitation of the ^{181m}Ta isomer in the laser-plasma scenario was claimed to have been observed more than two decades ago. However, the reported experimental findings-and the respective high excitation rate-were later questioned as they could not be ...

Resonant antennas are increasingly employed by the plasma industry, and the theory has now developed alongside the technological applications to the extent that it is timely to document the progress in this field to aid antenna design for future novel RF p ...

New detectors for future high-energy physics experiments will operate under unprecedented radiation dose rates. This condition requires improved radiation resistance on detector equipment. The consequent development of new materials, particularly optical m ...

Giant negative ion sources for neutral beam injectors deliver huge negative ion currents, thanks to their multi-beamlet configuration. As the single-beamlet optics defines the transmission losses along the beamline, the extraction of a similar current for ...

Mesons comprising a beauty quark and strange quark can oscillate between particle (B-s(0)) and antiparticle (B-s(-0)) flavour eigenstates, with a frequency given by the mass difference between heavy and light mass eigenstates, Delta m(s). Here we present a ...

The last decade has seen the development of a wide set of tools, such as wavefront shaping, computational or fundamental methods, that allow us to understand and control light propagation in a complex medium, such as biological tissues or multimode fibers. ...

A search is presented for a right-handed W boson (W-R) and a heavy neutrino (N), in a final state consisting of two same-flavor leptons (ee or mu mu) and two quarks. The search is performed with the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC using a data sample of pro ...

The investigations of the interconnection between micro- and macroscopic properties of materials hosting noncollinear antiferromagnetic ground states are challenging. These forefront studies are crucial for unraveling the underlying mechanisms at play, whi ...

A measurement of the ratios of the effective decay widths of D-0 -> pi(-)pi(+) and D-0 -> K- K+ decays over that of D-0 -> K-pi(+) decays is performed with the LHCb experiment using proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, correspondi ...

A search has been performed for heavy resonances decaying to ZZ or ZW and for axion-like particles (ALPs) mediating nonresonant ZZ or ZH production, in final states with two charged leptons (l = e, mu) produced by the decay of a Z boson, and two quarks pro ...

Proximity-induced superconductivity in a ferromagnet can induce Cooper pairs with a finite center-of-mass momentum and stabilize Josephson junctions (JJs) with pi phase difference in superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor heterostructures. The emergence ...

The effects of the finite size of the simulation box in equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations are investigated for prototypical superionic conductors of different types, namely, the fluorite-structure materials PbF2, CaF2, and UO2 (type II), and the a ...

In this paper we analyze fast ion motion in the divertor tokamak test (DTT) device (Albanese et al 2017 Nucl. Fusion 57 016010). It is planned that DTT will be heated through a mix of 45 MW heating power, including 15 MW negative-ion-based neutral beam hea ...

At ambient pressure, lithium molybdenum purple bronze (Li0.9Mo6O17) is a quasi-one-dimensional solid in which the anisotropic crystal structure and the linear dispersion of the underlying bands produced by electronic correlations possibly bring about a rar ...

We experimentally verify the link existing between entanglement and the amount of wave-particle duality in a bipartite quantum system with superconducting qubits in the IBM Q quantum computer. We consider both pure and mixed states, and study the influence ...

We study the role of hydrodynamic instabilities in the morphogenesis of some typical karst draperies structures encountered in limestone caves. The problem is tackled using the long wave approximation for the fluid film that flows under an inclined substra ...

Formation of a microlayer in nucleate boiling results in substantial changes to the heat-transfer dynamics of the process, and establishing a criterion to distinguish between the microlayer and contact-line regimes encountered is necessary to obtain a quan ...
