A novel method for the laser to fiber coupling is presented in which coarse alignment is achieved through micromachined v-grooves and mirrors in a fused silica substrate. Furthermore, fine repositioning is done in a noncontact manner by using a femtosecond ...

Second harmonic generation microscopy is used to image interfaces or non-centrosymmetric structures and molecules. Two-photon fluorescence microscopy can image molecules within cells without using markers. Thus those technics have lead to advances in our u ...

Supercontinuum generation and soliton microcomb formation both represent key techniques for the formation of coherent, ultrabroad optical frequency combs, enabling the RF-to-optical link. Coherent supercontinuum generation typically relies on ultrashort pu ...

Miniaturization has been at the forefront of scientific research in the past decade covering diverse areas such as electronics, mechanics, and optics. While 'small is beautiful' may be a vast generalization, the true benefits of miniaturization are especia ...

A system and method to generate ultrashort high beam quality pulses from spatio- temporally mode-locked multimode fiber laser are described. The invention relies on engineering the intra-cavity pulse propagation in a multimode laser cavity to shape the spa ...

Temporal modulation of components of electromagnetic systems provides an exceptional opportunity to engineer the response of those systems in a desired fashion, both in the time and frequency domains. For engineering time-modulated systems, one needs to th ...

After more than thirty years of continuous research and development, the performances of conventional Brillouin based distributed optical fiber sensors (DOFS) are now peaking, as they are facing fundamental barriers that restrict the power of the light inj ...

Quasi-phase-matching (QPM) has become one of the most common approaches for increasing the efficiency of nonlinear three-wave mixing processes in integrated photonic circuits. Here, we provide a study of dispersion engineering of QPM second-harmonic (SH) g ...

A distributed and dynamic strain sensing system based on frequency-scanning phase-sensitive optical time domain reflectometry is proposed and demonstrated. By utilizing an RF pulse scheme with a fast arbitrary waveform generator, a train of optical pulses ...

We have recorded the diffraction patterns from individual xenon clusters irradiated with intense extreme ultraviolet pulses to investigate the influence of light-induced electronic changes on the scattering response. The clusters were irradiated with short ...

Frequency doubling of an infrared laser radiation in non-linear optical crystals is a widely used technique to obtain light in the visible range. The second harmonic generation process is influenced by several well-known parameters. In this article we stud ...

We show how broadband (>30nm) quasi-phase matching in all-optically poled Si3N4 waveguides provides a platform for efficient sum-frequency generation, and for femtosecond pulse processing such as fcEo detection without the need for group velocity engineeri ...
