Wind tunnel experiments were performed with a miniature floating wind turbine model to study the effects of cyclic pitch motion on its power performance. The cyclic pitch motion was prescribed by two key parameters: pitch frequency and amplitude. The power ...

The current global energy landscape is characterized by an increasing demand for affordable and sustainable energy sources, leading to an ever increasing integration of intermittent renewable energy resources into the grid. The intermittent nature of these ...

The aggravation of climate change calls for the timely development and implementation of highly efficient, renewable, zero- or negative-emission energy solutions with high technological readiness and feasibility levels. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) consti ...

The world by and large has adopted the The Paris Agreement, which commits any signing party to cut greenhouse emissions drastically and prevent global heating above 2 °C beyond pre-industrial levels. For this ambitious goal to be met, ratifying states need ...

The depletion of fossil fuel sources has encouraged the authorities to use renewable resources such as wind energy to generate electricity. A backup/storage system can improve the performance of wind turbines, due to fluctuations in power demand. The novel ...

Despite the ever-growing interest in micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) as a promising power source for microelectronics, their low areal energy density has plagued practical applications. Herein, accordion foldable MSCs (af-MSCs) are presented as a cell archite ...

Biorefineries hold the potential to provide products and energy carriers at reduced environmental impact compared to their fossil-based counterparts. Thus, they can contribute to the decarbonization of sectors in which electrification of demands is challen ...

Wind energy has played a major role in the development of our society since 5000 BC when the first sail boats traveled the Nile River. Wind technology continued to advance with the invention of wind-powered pumps and mills in China and the Middle East as e ...

We demonstrate how charging infrastructure for electrical vehicles can be utilized for the provision of Ancillary Services to the Power Grid. Fast- charging stations that supply energy to vehicles at high power rates in- corporate energy storage to prevent ...

The Pumped Hydro Storages (PHSs) equipped with variables speed drives have several advantages, namely: i) power regulation in pumping mode, ii) extended operating range, iii) higher efficiency in turbine mode. Such flexible operation of the PHS units ensur ...

The paper presents an active sharing device, for equalizing the voltages across a series connection of supercapacitors. This ensures an optimal value for the stored energy. Based on a buck-boost topology, this device is designed and controlled to propose a ...
