This paper presents the proof-of-concept for a 4D printed active compliant hinge with a selectively variable stiffness for the deployment and reorientation of satellite appendages. We use 4D printing to create an active compliant hinge capable of bending t ...

Wind energy has played a major role in the development of our society since 5000 BC when the first sail boats traveled the Nile River. Wind technology continued to advance with the invention of wind-powered pumps and mills in China and the Middle East as e ...

Heteroaromatic units are commonly used as pi-spacers for sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Here, we investigated the influence of the pi-spacer on the photophysical properties, electrochemical properties and photovoltaic performance of car ...

Solar energy is considered clean energy, and its use is predicted to increase in the near future. Most installed units today are crystalline solar cells, but the field is in constant development, and when the first dye sensitized solar cell was published b ...

Energy systems are undergoing a profound transition worldwide, substituting nuclear and thermal power with intermittent renewable energy sources (RES), creating discrepancies between the production and consumption of electricity and increasing their depend ...

The production of hydrogen fuels, via water splitting, is of practical relevance for meeting global energy needs and mitigating the environmental consequences of fossil-fuel-based transportation. Water photoelectrolysis has been proposed as a viable approa ...

In the present study, we use commercial digitally printed ceramic tiles, functionnalized by AgNPs doped micro–TiO2, to investigate the mechanism of Ag in the continouos photocatalytic antibacterial activity. The novelty of the research lies in the attempt ...

The foreseen important increase of the penetration of distributed renewable energies technologies into the electricity distribution grid is expected to lead to some major challenges. On the one hand, a large and synchronous production could lead in certain ...

Motivated by the shift of the photovoltaic (PV) industry towards bifacial solar modules, desert markets, and ever narrower profit margins, this thesis study is aimed at improving the estimation accuracy of the output of bifacial PV systems that are potenti ...

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are considered the next-in-line technology in the solar industry. This technology can reduce the cost of solar energy to an unprecedented level given their remarkably high efficiency and ease of manufacturing. Hitherto, many s ...

The conversion of solar to electrical power has presented itself as a solution to meet the growing energy demand and replace our current fossil fuel dependence, which causes dramatic damages to the environment. At the heart of this challenge lies the perfo ...

Design optimization of distributed energy systems has become an interest of a wider group of researchers due the capability of these systems to integrate non-dispatchable renewable energy technologies such as solar PV and wind. White box models, using line ...

In 2014, the Singapore government announced plans to increase the adoption of solar power, including by integrating solar PV systems into the urban environment. Careful planning of a neighbourhood at early design stage, which determines the overall urban m ...

Due to their simple design and operation, solar thermal collectors for domestic hot water gener-ation and space heating are one of the most common solar energy harvesting systems in use today. Dur-ing cold periods all the absorbed energy is useful. During ...
