The transition towards clean renewable energy sources, where wind and solar are prone to variation, requires adequate energy storage. Power-to-methane (PtM) systems can be part of the solution. Specifically, solid-oxide-electrolyser (SOE) based PtM systems ...

A new electrically driven gas booster is described as an alternative to the classical air-driven gas boosters known for their poor energetic efficiency. These boosters are used in small scale Hydrogen storage facilities and in refueling stations for Hydrog ...

Compressors for commercial and industrial heat-pumps in the 100kW-load range are currently dominated by positive displacementmachines. In the context of refrigerant phaseouts and changing regulations, natural refrigerants are seen as a compelling alternati ...

The energy integration of brewery plants and urban agglomerations has many benefits in terms of rational energy use and reduced environmental impact, especially during scenarios of uncertain supply chain and volatile market prices. In fact, the diversifica ...

The hydraulic design, computational analysis, and experimental investigations of a high-speed small-scale turbopump for mobile waste heat recovery applications based on organic Rankine cycle systems are presented in this paper. Such applications demand hig ...

The presence of a ventilated air gap behind the external cladding in a building envelope is known to have a tangible contribution to the overall performance of the wall assembly. In the present study, the hydrodynamic and thermal performances of ventilated ...

The heat transfer performance of commercially produced micro-enhanced tubes with and without a nanocoating was investigated under pool boiling of saturated refrigerant. These multiscale enhancements were on the outside of 19 mm horizontal copper tubes heat ...

The process synthesis and optimization methods used in this work include simulation of biomass gasification, hydrogen and synthetic natural gas production, and jet fuel production via a Fisher Tropsch unit. An energy integration approach, carried out by th ...

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems utilize much energy, accounting for 40% of total building energy use. The temperatures in buildings are commonly held within narrow limits, leading to higher energy use. Measurements from office bui ...

The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system is among the technologies applied to exploit waste heat in vehicles. Since common organic fluids have lower latent heat than water, higher mass flow rates are required to convert the same waste heat, considerably incr ...

Heat pumps will play an important role in improving the performance of the industrial processes aiming to decarbonize their heating requirements. Yet, defining the best operating conditions of those devices may be a challenging task, as they are embedded i ...

Solar radiation reaching the surface of the earth for a period of one hour contains more energy than that consumed by mankind over an entire year. Some of this solar energy is already collected by photovoltaic cells to cover the electricity needs of buildi ...

Designing turbocompressors is a complex and challenging task, as it involves balancing conflicting objectives such as efficiency, stability, and robustness against manufacturing deviations. This paper proposes an integrated design methodology for turbocomp ...

Small-scale turbomachinery is increasingly used in carbon-free energy conversion systems, such as commercial or domestic scale heat pumps, fuels cells for transportation and waste heat recovery. The usage of aerodynamic bearings allows the design of compac ...

The global warming potential (GWP) of working fluids in thermodynamic cycles and their environmental impact have been gaining considerable attention within the recent years. The global objectives on climate protection are becoming increasingly ambitious, w ...

Although robustness is an important consideration to guarantee the performance of designs under deviation, systems are often engineered by evaluating their performance exclusively at nominal conditions. Robustness is sometimes evaluated a posteriori throug ...

A ventilated air-space behind external claddings can potentially affect the thermal performance of the entire building structure. In particular, in the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) facades, ventilated cavities are typically present between the P ...

This paper suggests two novel designs for the electric vehicle charging stations using LiMn2O4 Lithium-ion battery and based on a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) and absorption refrigeration cycle (ARC) technologies to provide electricity and cooling, respect ...

A well-designed ventilated wall that incorporates air-space behind cladding can reduce energy use for conditioning buildings by adding a thermally resistive layer. The scarcity of thermal performance data and standardized test methods is a particular barri ...
