This thesis comes within the scope of tribology studies at the nanometer scale. The experimental techniques used in this work are essentially related to atomic force microscopy, which gives a direct access to the topography and forces of the studied system ...

Silicon nitride based ceramics (SiAlONs); tetragonal polycrystalline zirconia (3Y‐TZP); alumina and their composites reinforced with different amount of multi‐ walled carbon‐nanotubes (CNTs) have been processed by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). High tempera ...

The parallel kinematics machine tool HITA-STT (Stiffness Tracking Technology) developed by Willemin–Machines S.A. and EPFL is now able to machine. This machine can reach accelerations of 5g. It is characterized by a tilt of ± 60° around the B-axis. This ch ...

In this work, we present the general concept of an instrumented smart knee prosthesis for in-vivo measurement of forces and kinematics. This system can be used for early monitoring of the patient after implantation and prevent possible damage to the prosth ...

Knowledge of frictional forces acting on the tips of minimally invasive medical devices is important in the design and simulation of such devices. Moreover, several studies have shown that uncontrolled frictional forces can induce damage to organs. The goa ...

Nowadays many consumer electronic devices are using small engines (micromotors). Thanks to technological innovation, the components can be imbedded into numerous portable systems. The key factors for a nomadic integration are: reduction of power consumptio ...

Bilateral Master-Slave force reflecting servomechanisms are very interesting and useful devices. The basic principle of these systems is too realise a force and position transformation between the two mechanisms. This paper presents the design of the multi ...

The machine tool industry is a well established, old and extremely important branch of today's manufacturing industry. With the ongoing globalization and the resulting increase of competition in this industry, the manufacturers have to push their technolog ...
