Telomeres are nucleoprotein structures at the ends of linear chromosomes, being essential for the maintenance of genomic integrity. Telomeres have a unique structure which distinguishes chromosome termini from DNA damage sites. Shelterin complexes are the ...

Difficulties to replicate telomeres - the ends of our chromosomes - can cause telomere shortening and genome instability. These difficulties are due to the repetitive DNA sequence and distinct structures at telomeres that challenge the semi-conservative DN ...

Telomeres protect chromosome ends from nucleolytic degradation, uncontrolled recombination by DNA repair enzymes and checkpoint signaling, and they provide mechanisms for their maintenance by semiconservative DNA replication, telomerase and homologous reco ...

Telomerase negative cancer cell types use the Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) pathway to elongate telomeres ends. Here, we show that silencing human DNA polymerase (Pol λ) in ALT cells represses ALT activity and induces telomeric stress. In addi ...

Telomeres-repeated, noncoding nucleotide motifs and associated proteins that are found at the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes-mediate genome stability and determine cellular lifespan1. Telomeric-repeat-containing RNA (TERRA) is a class of long noncoding RNA ...

Telomeres are nucleoprotein structures present in the end of linear chromosomes. In humans, a core complex of 6 proteins cap and protect the chromosome ends from being recognized as double-strand breaks and eliciting unwanted DNA damage and repair response ...

The telomeric long noncoding RNA TERRA has been implicated in regulating telomere maintenance by telomerase and homologous recombination, and in influencing telomeric protein composition during the cell cycle and the telomeric DNA damage response. TERRA tr ...

Genomic instability is a hallmark of cancer. Whether it also occurs in Cancer Associated Fibroblasts (CAFs) remains to be carefully investigated. Loss of CSL/RBP-J kappa, the effector of canonical NOTCH signaling with intrinsic transcription repressive fun ...

Telomere dysfunction can unleash genome instability or permanently arrest cell proliferation, and thereby contribute to the processes of cancer and aging. Proper telomere function relies on many proteins that form part of its structure. Some telomeric prot ...

Telomeres are dynamic nucleo-protein structures capping the ends of all eukaryotic chromosomes. Together with telomerase, they counteract replication-dependent telomere attrition. Additionally, they disguise the linear ends of the chromosome from the DNA d ...

The ends of eukaryotic chromosomes, known as telomeres, consist of repetitive DNA sequences, multiple proteins and noncoding RNAs. Telomeres are dynamic structures that play crucial roles as guardians of genome stability and tumor suppressors. Defects in t ...

Telomeres are specialized nucleoprotein structures that protect chromosome ends from DNA damage response (DDR) and DNA rearrangements. The telomeric shelterin protein TRF2 suppresses the DDR, and this function has been attributed to its abilities to trigge ...

Adult stem cells (SCs) are essential for tissue maintenance and regeneration yet are susceptible to senescence during aging. We demonstrate the importance of the amount of the oxidized form of cellular nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)) and its imp ...

Telomeres are nucleoprotein structures capping the natural termini of eukaryotic linear chromosomes. Telomeres possess an inherent ability to circumvent the activation of a full-blown DNA damage response (DDR), and hence fusion reactions, by limiting inapp ...

Long noncoding telomeric repeat-containing RNAs TERRAs - are transcribed in a regulated manner from telomeres throughout eukaryotes. TERRA molecules consist of chromosome end-specific subtelomeric sequences and telomeric repeats at their 3' ends. Recent wo ...

Mutations in CTC1 lead to the telomere syndromes Coats Plus and dyskeratosis congenita (DC), but the molecular mechanisms involved remain unknown. CTC1 forms with STN1 and TEN1 a trimeric complex termed CST, which binds ssDNA, promotes telomere DNA synthes ...

Telomere composition changes during tumourigenesis, aging and in telomere syndromes in a poorly defined manner. Here we develop a quantitative telomeric chromatin isolation protocol (QTIP) for human cells, in which chromatin is cross-linked, immunopurified ...

Telomeres protect linear ends of eukaryotic chromosomes by preventing chromosomal end-to-end fusions and telomere attrition. They consist of repetitive DNA sequences, telomeric repeat containing RNAs (TERRAs) and proteins. Telomeres play a crucial role in ...

Telomeres are the physical ends of eukaryotic chromosomes. They protect chromosome ends from DNA degradation, recombination, and DNA end fusions, and they are important for nuclear architecture. Telomeres provide a mechanism for their replication by semico ...

Telomeres are the DNA/RNA/protein structures at the end of linear eukaryotic chromosomes, which protect them against the DNA damage repair machinery, preventing chromosome end-to-end fusions and aberrant recombination. Moreover, telomeres compensate for th ...
