In this paper we present a method for tomographic imaging using multiple wavelengths in digital holographic microscopy. This method is based on the recording at different wavelengths equally separated in the k-domain, in off- axis geometry of the interference between a reference wave and an object wave reflected by a microscopic sample and magnified by a microscope objective. A couple charged device (CCD) camera records consecutively the resulting holograms, which are then numerically reconstructed to obtai

Processing issues for the fabrication of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (cMUT) arrays have been studied using surface micromachining. This work focuses on the critical steps of process fabrication such as membrane formation, sacrificial layer properties and vacuum sealing performance of cavity. We describe a four-mask process for the realization of sealed cMUT. We demonstrate that the use of a sacrificial layer with a columnar structure gives a fast etching rate (29 nm s(-1)) in a buffered h

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) constitute a large class of seven transmembrane proteins, which bind selectively agonists or antagonists with important consequences for cellular signaling and function. Comprehension of the mol. details of ligand binding is important for the understanding of receptor function and in turn for the design and development of novel therapeutic compds. Here we show how ligand-receptor interaction can be investigated in situ with high sensitivity on sensor surfaces by total int

We consider a heterogeneous model for the dynamics of a blood solute both in the vascular lumen and inside the arterial wall. In the lumen, we consider an advection-diffusion equation, where the convective field is provided by the velocity of blood, which is in turn obtained by solving the Navier-Stokes equations. Inside the arterial wall we consider a pure diffusive dynamics. Since the endothelial layer at the interface between the lumen and the wall acts as a permeable membrane, whose permeability depends

We present here the results of the analysis of the stability experiment SeCRETS, performed on two Nb3Sn cable-in-conduit conductors with the same amount of total copper stabilizer, but different degree of segregation. The model used for the analysis, including superconducting strands, conductor jacket and helium, is solved with the code Gandalf(TM). We obtain a qualitative agreement of simulation results and experimental values. The simulation results confirm that in the operation regime explored in the exp

A model of a system including a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell and its fuel processing section has been developed. The goal was to investigate the process configurations to identify the optimal operating conditions and the optimal process structure of the system by applying modeling and process integration techniques. A simulation model using commercial chemical process simulation software (BELSIM-VALI) has been developed. The model includes a steam methane reforming (SMR), a water gas shift (WGS)

We present an efficient method for the computer simulation of granular media based on dynamic triangulations. Round and polygonal grains are considered. In both cases, we explain the theoretical principles on which the methods are based. The simulation schemes are outlined and several examples are given.

We create a computer based numerical model to predict the color spectra of printed patches on dry toner electrophotographic printers. The goal of this research is to obtain a simplified model describing the input-output behavior of the printers based on the physical characteristics of the different printing process steps and the interactions between them. This leads to a better understanding of the factors that have an impact on printing quality. Furthermore, by modeling the non-linearities of the electroph

A model for the calculation of lightning-induced voltages is presented with the aim of assessing the effect of corona when power distribution lines are illuminated by lightning electromagnetic fields. Corona is taken into account by means of dynamic capacitance describing a charge-voltage diagram. Such an equivalent capacitance is then introduced in a model which describes a line illuminated by a lightning electromagnetic field. It is first concluded that the influence of corona on lightning induced overvol

A numerical model is presented for the simulation of complex fluid flows with free surfaces. The unknowns are the velocity and pressure fields in the liquid region, together with a function defining the volume fraction of liquid. Although the mathematical formulation of the model is similar to the volume of fluid (VOF) method, the numerical schemes used to solve the problem are different. A splitting method is used for the time discretization. At each time step, two advection problems and a generalized Stok
