Magnetic field effects on electrocatalysis have recently gained attention due to the substantial enhancement of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on ferromagnetic catalysts. When detecting an enhanced catalytic activity, the effect of magnetic fields on ...

A continuous production prototype for scaling up the synthesis of a graphene oxide/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (GO/MWCNTs) composite as a hydrogen storage material has been proposed in this study. This prototype consists of an automatic feeding and mixin ...

Minimizing the power-specific iridium loading in polymer electrolyte water electrolysis (PEWE) is essential for the commercialization and upscaling of this technology. However, decreasing the iridium loading can severely affect performance and stability. M ...

The decarbonization of the built environment requires rapid growth in energy storage solutions due to the intermittent nature of most renewable energy sources. This paper focuses on the efficacy of so-called energy tunnels (i.e., tunnels equipped with pipe ...

Climate change caused by anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions necessitates a transition from fossil resources to greener fuels and chemicals. Hydrogen is a promising green energy vector due to its high gravimetric energy density, its potential use in fue ...

With the energy transition and CO2 emissions reduction as a priority on the international policy agenda, governments worldwide are trying to engage the population in investing in renewable energies. In this paper, we study the role of information access an ...

One of the promising methods to solve the current energyand environmentissues is photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting and CO2 reduction reaction. Chalcopyrite copper indium gallium sulfide (CIGS)and CuIn0.3Ga0.7S2 nanocrystal thinfilms have been cons ...

This study explores the suitability of a basket -based solar cooker for cooking in Uganda, an equatorial country. The solar cooker is designed to be easily constructed and based on recycled and locally available materials. Its performance in terms of cooki ...

Fossil fuels and materials on Earth are a finite resource and the disposal of waste into the air, on land, and into water has an impact on our environment on a global level. Using Switzerland as an example, the energy demand and the technical challenges, a ...

To answer the growing demand for data computing, data storage and data transmission, the current trend is to construct centralized hyperscale data centers, whose power usage effectiveness (PUE) has substantially improved in recent years. Still, the operati ...

For fully-air-processed perovskite solar cells (PSCs), high-quality perovskite films and improved intrinsic stability are critical for high photovoltaic performance. However, strain, as a critical factor of perovskite instability, not only harms the effici ...

Electrical energy storage systems are indispensable for the electrical grid with high penetration renewables. Reversible solid-oxide cell stack based power-to-x-to-power systems, which can switch between power generation and power storage, can achieve a hi ...

With a continuously growing share of non-dispatchable renewable energy sources in the power mix, flexibility in hydropower provision is becoming fundamental. The major role played by hydropower in frequency regulation in the last years has underlined the p ...

In the construction sector, the integration of active elements functioning both as building envelope material and on-site electricity generator is identified as a key measure to achieve the 2050 targets and carbon neutrality (Aguacil Moreno, 2019; Aguacil ...

The use of a solution process to grow perovskite thin films allows to extend the material processability. It is known that the physicochemical properties of the perovskite material can be tuned by altering the solution precursors as well as by controlling ...

The rapid rise of organic-inorganic lead halide perovskites has amazed the photovoltaic community. As the efficiency race continues for this revolutionary class of light-harvesting materials, many questions on the structural, electronic and optical propert ...
