BackgroundImpaired cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics is involved in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system and the optic nerve (ON), including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, as well as frontotemporal dementia ...

Circulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) plays an important role during development. In zebrafish embryo, the flow of CSF has been found to be bidirectional in the central canal of the spinal cord. In order to compare conditions and genetic mutants across ...

Introduction. - Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), secondary to spinal hemangioblastoma (HBL), is extremely rare, with only a few case reports to date. We report the experience of our reference centre for spinal tumours and Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease in ...

Diseases or injuries affecting the nervous system can dramatically disrupt the quality of life. Despite extensive efforts towards treating dysfunctional nervous systems, the pharmacological and electrical approaches generally involved lack the temporal and ...

Objective. We recently developed soft neural interfaces enabling the delivery of electrical and chemical stimulation to the spinal cord. These stimulations restored locomotion in animal models of paralysis. Soft interfaces can be placed either below or abo ...

For the first time, inter-operator dependence of MRI based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the cervical spinal subarachnoid space (SSS) is evaluated. In vivo MRI flow measurements and anatomy MRI images were obta ...

The purpose of the present study was to compare subject-specific magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations with time-resolved three-directional (3D) velocity-encoded phase-contrast MRI (4D PCMRI) measurements of ...

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics in the spinal subarachnoid space (SSS) have been thought to play an important pathophysiological role in syringomyelia, Chiari I malformation (CM), and a role in intrathecal drug delivery. Yet, the impact that fine anatom ...

Ferritin H, the major iron storage protein, has essential functions in early embryonic development as well as in adult liver and intestine. To address the question whether ferritin H has similarly essential functions in the brain we used the Cre/loxP syste ...

Martin BA, Reymond P, Novy J, Baledent O, Stergiopulos N. A coupled hydrodynamic model of the cardiovascular and cerebrospinal fluid system. Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol 302: H1492-H1509, 2012. First published January 20, 2012; doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.006 ...

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics in the cervical spinal subarachnoid space (SSS) have been thought to be important to help diagnose and assess craniospinal disorders such as Chiari I malformation (CM). In this study we obtained time-resolved three direct ...

To analyse cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) hydrodynamics in patients with Chiari type I malformation (CM) with and without syringomyelia using 4D magnetic resonance (MR) phase contrast (PC) flow imaging. 4D-PC CSF flow data were acquired in 20 patients with CM ( ...

Hydrocephalus is a brain disease wherein the ventricles dilate and compress the parenchyma towards the skull. It is primarily characterized by the disruption of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow within the ventricular system. Normal pressure hydrocephalus ...

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a colourless liquid that fills the ventricular space and serves several functions like buoyancy, chemical stability and protection. CSF is produced within the ventricles and partly by the ependyma cells. Part of it seeps toward ...

Full explanation for the pathogenesis of syringomyelia (SM), a neuropathology characterized by the formation of a cystic cavity (syrinx) in the spinal cord (SC), has not yet been provided. It has been hypothesized that abnormal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pr ...

The aim of this principally experimental study is to understand from fluid mechanic principles why an insignificant anesthetic dose administered as a short bolus into the cerebrospinal fluid inside the subarachnoid space provides greater pain relief than a ...

This thesis work aims to optimize the treatment of hydrocephalus. It consists of two distinct objectives: the optimization of the diagnosis of patients implanted with a shunt system for the derivation of cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) and the optimization of t ...
