Reliable and esthetically pleasing lightweight photovoltaic modules for building integration are expected to grow interest in the consumer market, especially for retrofitting older buildings and storehouses that are not structurally designed to withstand a ...

This paper investigates the high cycle tensile fatigue behavior of steel rebar reinforced − UHPFRC elements, at a fatigue load ratio, i.e., R-ratio of 0.3, representative for structural applications. Prior to testing, magnetoscopy is conducted on each spec ...

High-performance concretes are increasingly employed in various civil engineering applications due to their exceptional short- and long-term performance. As a result, there is a significant need for simplified numerical simulation methods to effectively in ...

We report the results of an exploratory design study for Nitronic 50 (N50) Toroidal Field (TF) coils for the EU-DEMO fusion power plant. N50 is a super-austenitic steel that has a yield stress (𝝈 𝒚) of up to 1500 MPa at 4 K, 50% higher than the conventiona ...

The release process of dry-snow slab avalanches begins with a localized failure within a porous, weak snow layer beneath a cohesive slab. Subsequently, rapid crack propagation may occur within the weak layer, eventually leading to a tensile fracture across ...

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is a bottom-up manufacturing technique using a high-energy laser to selectively melt metallic alloys, enabling the creation of complex microstructures. While rapid cooling rates and process stochasticity can lead to unpredict ...

Neutron embrittlement of in -core and out-of-core components made of ferritic steels is one of the key parameters limiting the life of power plants. Owing to the small volume of available irradiation facilities and the limited number of neutron-irradiated ...

Irbesartan is a non-peptide antagonist of the angiotensin-II-AT1 receptor and is used for the treatment of hypertension. Here, the history, achievements and open questions related to irbesartan are examined. Tautomery of the tetrazole moiety leads to two d ...

Bio-based lightweight materials are promising replacements for petroleum-based foams in building and packaging applications. In this work, we developed a surfactant-assisted foam-forming method to manufacture lightweight materials based on lignocellulosic ...

Unraveling the oxidation of graphitic lattice is of great interest for atomic-scale lattice manipulation. Herein, we build epoxy cluster, atom by atom, using Van der Waals' density-functional theory aided by Clar's aromatic it-sextet rule. We predict the f ...

We present new broad-band X-ray observations of the z similar to 2.5 lensed quasar 2MASS J1042+1641, combining XMM-Newton, Chandra, and NuSTAR to provide coverage of the X-ray spectrum over the 0.3-40 keV bandpass in the observed frame, corresponding to th ...
