We present a novel method for isogeometric analysis (IGA) to directly work on geometries constructed by Boolean operations including difference (i.e., trimming), union, and intersection. Particularly, this work focuses on the union operation, which involve ...

The underlying geometrical structure of the latent space in deep generative models is in most cases not Euclidean, which may lead to biases when comparing interpolation capabilities of two models. Smoothness and plausibility of linear interpolations in lat ...

This paper deals with the theory of primary aberrations for perturbed double-plane symmetric optical systems consisting of a combination of tilted and decentered surfaces and a circular pupil. First, the analytical expressions describing the full field beh ...

Basket weaving is a traditional craft for creating curved surfaces as an interwoven array of thin, flexible, and initially straight ribbons. The three-dimensional shape of a woven structure emerges through a complex interplay of the elastic bending behavio ...

Emergence of products that feature functional surfaces with complex geometries, such as freeform optics in consumer electronics and augmented reality and virtual reality, requires high-accuracy non-contact surface measurement. However, large discrepancies ...

Adaptive isogeometric methods for the solution of partial diifferential equations rely on the construction of locally refinable spline spaces. A simple and efficient way to obtain these spaces is to apply the multi-level construction of hierarchical spline ...

We study the energy distribution of harmonic 1-forms on a compact hyperbolic Riemann surface S where a short closed geodesic is pinched. If the geodesic separates the surface into two parts, then the Jacobian variety of S develops into a variety that split ...

Ongoing advances in imaging techniques create new demands regarding the analysis of images in medicine and biology. Image segmentation is a key step of many image analysis pipelines and its proper execution is a particularly challenging task. This thesis i ...

Moire is an appealing visual effect observable when two or more repetitive patterns are superposed. Fabrication of moire effects has already proven to be useful in a range of applications, from art to engineering. Here, we introduce a method for designing ...

This work focuses on the study of several computational challenges arising when trimmed surfaces are directly employed for the isogeometric analysis of Kirchhoff-Love shells. To cope with these issues and to resolve mechanical and/or geometrical features o ...
