The detection of inelastically scattered soft x-rays with high energy resolution usually requires large grating spectrometers. Recently, photoelectron spectrometry for analysis of x-rays (PAX) has been rediscovered for modern spectroscopy experiments at sy ...

To characterize in detail the charge density wave (CDW) transition of 1T-VSe2, its electronic structure and lattice dynamics are comprehensively studied by means of x-ray diffraction, muon spectroscopy, angle resolved photoemission (ARPES), diffuse and ine ...

Ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) is a powerful tool to characterize the surface structure of heterogeneous catalysts in situ. In order to improve the time resolution and the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of photoemission spectra, we ...

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have shown an incredible increase in efficiency, reaching as high as 25.7%, which now competes with traditional photovoltaic technologies. Herein, we excluded CsX and RbX (X = I–, Br–, Cl–), the most commonly used cations to ...

Surface nanostructuring enables the fabrication of materials with highly desirable properties. Nanostructured tungsten surfaces have potential applications in solar water splitting. Exposing a polished tungsten surface to helium plasma induces various surf ...

Local inversion symmetry breaking in centrosymmetric materials can lead to large spin polarization of the electronic band structure in separate sectors of the unit cell. Here, the authors reveal such hidden spin polarisation in ZrSiTe using spin and angle ...

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measures the binding energy of core-level electrons, which are well-localised to specific atomic sites in a molecular system, providing valuable information on the local chemical environment. The technique relies on m ...

Quasicrystals are aperiodically ordered structures with unconventional rotational symmetry. Their peculiar features have been explored in photonics to engineer bandgaps for light waves. Magnons (spin waves) are collective spin excitations in magnetically o ...

Incorporating extended pi-conjugated organic cations in layered lead halide perovskites is a recent trend promising to merge the fields of organic semiconductors and lead halide perovskites. Herein, we integrate benzodithiophene (BDT) into Ruddlesden–Poppe ...

The electronic spectral function of BaNi2As2 is investigated using both angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and a combined computational scheme of local density approximation and dynamical mean-field theory (LDA + DMFT). In contrast to the we ...

Employing X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and momentum-resolved density fluctuation (MRDF) theory, the magnetic and electronic properties of ultrathin NdNiO3 (NNO) film in proximity to ferromagne ...

A detailed theoretical and experimental study on the effect of the superposition of uncorrelated speckle patterns with polarization diversity on the spatial statistics of the superposed speckle pattern is presented. It is shown that depending on the mutual ...

Trigonal tellurium, a small-gap semiconductor with pronounced magneto-electric and magneto-optical responses, is among the simplest realizations of a chiral crystal. We have studied by spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy its unconventional ...

Magnetic Weyl semimetals are a newly discovered class of topological materials that may serve as a platform for exotic phenomena, such as axion insulators or the quantum anomalous Hall effect. Here, we use angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and ab i ...

Interaction effects can change materials properties in intriguing ways, and they have, in general, a huge impact on electronic spectra. In particular, satellites in photoemission spectra are pure many-body effects, and their study is of increasing interest ...

It was recently discovered that a conductive, metallic state is formed on the surface of some insulating oxides. First observed on SrTiO3 (001), it was then found in other compounds as diverse as anatase TiO2, KTaO3, BaTiO3, ZnO, and also on different surf ...

Lead-halide perovskite (LHP) semiconductors are emergent optoelectronic materials with outstanding transport properties which are not yet fully understood. We find signatures of large polaron formation in the electronic structure of the inorganic LHP CsPbB ...

By measuring the spin polarization of GeTe films as a function of light polarization we observed that the bulk states are fully spin polarized in the initial state, in strong contrast with observations for other systems with a strong spin-orbit interaction ...

Symmetry and topology are fundamental properties of nature. Mathematics provides us with a general framework to understand these concepts. On one side, symmetry describes the invariance properties of an object for specific transformations. On the other sid ...

In this work, a Mg(0001) single crystal is used as a novel template to grow 2D supramolecular nano-architectures. By using scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and high-resolution X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (HR-XPS), the formation of either a homo-mo ...
