Obesity represents a significant public health concern and is linked to various comorbidities and cognitive impairments. Previous research indicates that elevated body mass index (BMI) is associated with structural changes in white matter (WM). However, a ...

Adipose tissues serve as an energy reservoir and endocrine organ, yet the mechanisms that coordinate these functions remain elusive. Here, we show that the transcriptional coregulators, YAP and TAZ, uncouple fat mass from leptin levels and regulate adipocy ...

Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic (HI) encephalopathy (HIE) in term newborns is a leading cause of mortality and chronic disability. Hypothermia (HT) is the only clinically available therapeutic intervention; however, its neuroprotective effects are limited. Lacto ...

The fundamental role of any neuron within a network is to transform complex spatiotemporal synaptic input patterns into individual output spikes. These spikes, in turn, act as inputs for other neurons in the network. Neurons must execute this function acro ...

INTRODUCTION: The combined use of intraoperative MRI and awake surgery is a tailored microsurgical resection to respect functional neural networks (mainly the language and motor ones). Intraoperative MRI has been classically considered to increase the exte ...

IntroductionDesulfitobacterium hafniense was isolated for its ability to use organohalogens as terminal electron acceptors via organohalide respiration (OHR). In contrast to obligate OHR bacteria, Desulfitobacterium spp. show a highly versatile energy meta ...

Approximately 2 billion people worldwide and a significant part of the domestic livestock are infected with soil-transmitted helminths, of which many establish chronic infections causing substantial eco-nomic and welfare burdens. Beside intensive research ...

The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is a key hormonal system. In recent years, the functional analysis of the novel axis of the RAS (ACE2/Ang-(1-7)/Mas receptor) revealed that its activation can become pro-tective against several pathologies, including card ...

Weber et al. provide evidence in support of a stress-diathesis model of functional neurological disorders. They identify trauma history in the form of emotional neglect as a psychological risk factor, and reduced hippocampus and amygdala volume as a predis ...

Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) is the only technique capable of measuring a large number of metabolites simultaneously in vivo. Ultra-high magnetic fields (UHF) combined with ultra-short echo time (TE) sequences allow the detection of high-quality 1 ...

Carbamazepine (CBZ) and Hg are widespread and persistent micropollutants in aquatic environments. Both pollutants are known to trigger similar toxicity mechanisms, e.g. reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Here, their effects were assessed in the zebr ...

Hypothalamic interleukin-6 (IL6) exerts a broad metabolic control. Here, we demonstrated that IL6 activates the ERK1/2 pathway in the ventromedial hypothalamus (VMH), stimulating AMPK/ACC signaling and fatty acid oxidation in mouse skeletal muscle. Bioinfo ...

Purpose Studying the plasma proteome of control versus constitutionally thin (CT) individuals, exposed to overfeeding, may give insights into weight-gain management, providing relevant information to the clinical entity of weight-gain resistant CT, and dis ...

One of the most important goals in neuroscience research has always been to understand how animals control their behavior. However, the long focus on the role of brain neurons in behavioral control might be missing the full story. In fact, brain-wide fluct ...

Recently, adaptive non-shivering thermogenesis has attracted considerable attention because it can elevate energy expenditure and help treat obesity. Despite the numerous reports related to UCP1-driven thermogenesis, little is known regarding UCP1-independ ...

Bile acids (BAs) improve metabolism and exert anti-obesity effects through the activation of the Takeda G protein-coupled receptor 5 (TGR5) in peripheral tissues. TGR5 is also found in the brain hypothalamus, but whether hypothalamic BA signaling is implic ...

Brain metabolism evolves rapidly during early post‐natal development in the rat. While changes in amino acids, energy metabolites, antioxidants or metabolites involved in phospholipid metabolism have been reported in the early stages, neurometabolic change ...

This thesis is composed of four studies centered on investigating cerebral metabolism using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) of hyperpolarized and non-hyperpolarized compounds at ultra-high field. In the first two chapters, we studied longitudinally t ...

How lifespan and body weight vary as a function of diet and genetic differences is not well understood. Here we quantify the impact of differences in diet on lifespan in a genetically diverse family of female mice, split into matched isogenic cohorts fed a ...

Organohalides are a class of compounds often considered as persistent pollutants and harmful to environmental and human health. Some bacteria, among which are representatives from the Firmicutes phylum, are capable of using these compounds as terminal acce ...
