This paper establishes a mean-field equation set and an energy theorem to provide a theoretical basis in view of the development of self-consistent, physics-based turbulent transport models for mean-field transport codes. A rigorous averaging procedure ide ...

This study evaluates available analytical wake models for flow prediction inside and downstream of wind farms of different sizes and layouts using large-eddy simulation (LES), and introduces an enhanced analytical framework. All the tested analytical wake ...

Simulations of plasma turbulence in a linear plasma device configuration are presented. These simulations are based on a simplified version of the gyrokinetic (GK) model proposed by Frei et al. [J. Plasma Phys. 86, 905860205 (2020)], where the full-F distr ...

This work presents a study of two-phase flow generated inside a rock-flow cell setup. It is characterized by a pipe section filled with fluid (oil in our studies) that is put into oscillation around its mass centre by an electric motor. This type of appara ...

This work studies the nearshore hydrodynamics of a shallow turbulent flow entering a laterally unconfined quiescent ambient with a sloping bottom boundary. Examples of such flow are neutrally buoyant ebb tidal jets and hyperpycnal river plumes entering ope ...

The Obukhov-Corrsin theory of scalar turbulence [21, 54] advances quantitative predictions on passive-scalar advection in a turbulent regime and can be regarded as the analogue for passive scalars of Kolmogorov's K41 theory of fully developed turbulence [4 ...

Flux-tube (local) gyrokinetic codes are widely used to simulate drift-wave turbulence in magnetic confinement devices. While a large number of studies show that flux-tube codes provide an excellent approximation for turbulent transport in medium-large devi ...

Dry deposition to the surface is one of the main removal pathways of tropospheric ozone (O3). We quantified for the first time the impact of O3 deposition to the Arctic sea ice on the planetary boundary layer (PBL) O3 concentration and budget using year-ro ...

We seek to address how air entrapment mechanisms during infiltration are influenced by the wetting characteristics of the fluid and the pore network formed by the reinforcement. To this end, we evaluated the behavior of two model fluids with different surf ...

Analytical wind turbine wake models are widely used to predict the wake velocity deficit. In these models, the wake growth rate is a key parameter specified mainly with empirical formulations. In this study, a new physics-based model is proposed and valida ...

Predicting particle transport in turbulent flows has a plethora of applications, some of which are: the transport of atmospheric aerosols, the deposition of blood cells in the arteries of human bodies and the atomization of fuel droplets in combustion cham ...

The impact of the parallel flow shear on the tokamak plasma stability and turbulent transport driven by the ion temperature gradient (ITG) modes is analyzed by means of local gyrokinetic numerical analyses. It is shown that the parallel flow shear increase ...

Self-consistent full-size turbulent-transport simulations of the divertor and scrape-off-layer (SOL) of existing tokamaks have recently become feasible. This enables the direct comparison of turbulence simulations against experimental measurements. In this ...

The prediction of plasma rotation is of high interest for fusion research due to the effects of the rotation upon magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) instabilities, impurities, and turbulent transport in general. In this work, an analysis method was studied and vali ...

A projection-based reduced order model (ROM) based on the Fourier collocation method is proposed for compressible flows. The incorporation of localized artificial viscosity model and filtering is pursued to enhance the robustness and accuracy of the ROM fo ...

The current research focuses on the prediction of the maximum axial compression load a cylindrical shell is able to bear. This maximum axial compression load is the value at which a cylindrical shell loses stability and abruptly buckles. After the buckling ...

The overall performance of a tokamak strongly depends on phenomena that take place in a thin region between the main plasma and the vessel wall, which is denoted as tokamak boundary. In fact, the formation of transport barriers in this region can significa ...

We investigate the growth of a plane-strain/radial hydraulic fracture in an infinite impermeable medium driven by a constant injection rate assuming that the apparent toughness scales with the decreasing fracture growth rate in a power-law relation. The vi ...

Physical simulation is an indispensable component of robotics simulation platforms that serves as the basis for a plethora of research directions. Looking strictly at robotics, the common characteristic of the most popular physics engines, such as ODE, DAR ...

Multiscale phenomena are involved in countless problems in fluid mechanics. Coating flows are known to exhibit a broad variety of patterns, such as wine tears in a glass and dripping of fresh paint applied on a wall. Coating flows are typically modeled und ...
