This paper presents a novel Finite Element (FE) simulation approach to examine the mode I fracture of thick adhesive joints used particularly in the trailing edge of the wind turbine blades. The approach involved FE models of the DCB specimens focusing on ...

All living organisms contain lipids because lipids are the essential components of cell membranes, which preserve the integrity and functionality of cells by protecting their organelles from the external environment. Lipids can also be found easily in our ...

This thesis investigates the potential of gallium phosphide (GaP) as a platform for advanced integrated photonic devices, leveraging its exceptional optical properties. Significant advantages over traditional materials like silicon nitride (Si3N4) are offe ...

We compare the uniaxial tensile behavior of mu m-scale cast silver tensile specimens at strain rates of 10(-3 )s(-1) and 2 s(-1) to find no major impact of the strain rate on either of the flow stress, work hardening, or strain to fracture. Plastic deforma ...

Collapse in steel structures is often controlled by loss of load carrying capacity of steel columns due to interactive buckling, which involves interactions between local and global (i.e., lateral and lateral torsional) buckling. Commonly used concentrated ...

Programmable shape morphing enables soft machines to safely and effectively interact with the environment. Stimuli-responsive materials can transform 2D sheets into 3D geometries. However, most solutions cannot hold their shape at zero power, are limited t ...

This study investigates the microstructure, phase formation, and mechanical properties of LC3-50 based auto-claved aerated blocks. The microstructure and phase formation is studied using SEM-EDS and X-ray diffraction techniques. The fresh and hardened prop ...

Humanitarian actors involved in physical rehabilitation, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), usually provide their beneficiaries with lower-limb prostheses comprising Solid Ankle Cushion Heel (SACH) feet as these are considered app ...

Due to their exceptional photovoltaic properties, metal halide perovskites (MHPs) are extensively studied for their potential applications in solar cells. In recent years, the power conversion efficiencies of MHPs-based solar cells rapidly increased from t ...

Dion-Jacobson (DJ) iodoplumbates based on 1,4-phenylenedimethanammonium (PDMA) have recently emerged as promising light absorbers for perovskite solar cells. While PDMA is one of the simplest aromatic spacers potentially capable of forming a DJ structure b ...

Computational micromechanics and homogenization require the solution of the mechanical equilibrium of a periodic cell that comprises a (generally complex) microstructure. Techniques that apply the Fast Fourier Transform have attracted much attention as the ...

Nonlinear wave propagation in solids and material structures provides a physical basis to derive nonlinear canonical equations which govern disparate phenomena such as vortex filaments, plasma waves, and traveling loops. Nonlinear waves in solids however r ...

Since the first inductively coupled plasma (ICP) torch was developed in the 60's, RF thermal plasmas have found a variety of applications in material processing such as crystal growth, thermal spray coatings, spheroidization and vaporization of refractory ...
